Awesome hidden gem - Edit
Really great place, especially considering that Nara doesn't have that many vegan restaurants. Reasonable price, excellent food and fantastic setting. Will definitely go again.

Read morethe atmosphere is just lovely and the food is healthy and outstanding. they do everything from scratch and even have an old oven where they do the genmai dumplings.
they don't use white sugar but tensai sugar which is a big plus.
they have a seasonal menu, that's why I try to go there as often as I can. they explain you every detail of the menu (only Japanese).
unfortunately, sometimes it's not enough for me, but I usually eat a lot haha. still, for me going there is so relaxing and refreshing.
Pros: only vegan food, warm-hearted and friendly, rural ancient-style Japanese atmosphere
Cons: bit small portions

Amazing Food near Horyuji - Edit
Family run Japanese vegetarian restaurant that has amazing food at an incredibly reasonable price. They cook their rice in the very old fashioned stove over wood & it was very soft & sticky for brown rice. Super tasty! Lots of small dishes with a variety of seasonal vegetables. Owners are very friendly & explained all the dishes. It is located about a six minute walk from Horyuji next to a rice paddy.
