Being no stranger to this now global chain of ice cream parlours, I went here with full knowledge that I was going to have my sweet cravings sated - the only question being, to what extent?
Read moreThe reason for this minor uncertainty was the fact that while they offer a good range of plant-based options as standard (though they are fruit-based, which is about as basic as it gets in my eyes), they also have monthly/bi-monthly specials, which often range from great to outstanding. So, what would it be? Well, let’s put it this way - the July & August flavours proved there were at least three reasons to stay in Dubai during the blisteringly scorching summer.
As is often the case with these guest offerings, the names were, to my feeble, linguistically challenged mind at least, utterly unpronounceable (though they did throw me a lifeline with Mintnight, I could just about handle that). To avoid any embarrassment, I simply pointed, politely grunted while gesturing to the boards, and scuttled away.
Of the two unutterable creations, the Latte di Mandorla con Composta di Fragole (Almond Milk with Strawberry Compote) and the Yove Fichi e Sesamo Pralinato (Yove Figs and Sesame Praline), it was the latter that prevailed as the stronger - how could it not? Subtle fruit notes combined with the caramelised nuttiness sat perfectly in the creamy gelato. This isn’t to say the other was in any way bad; it was just lacking the punch of its tub mate.
The real surprise package, however, was the aforementioned mint. Sure, I was expecting it to be good, but it was exceedingly so and leagues above your common garden variety.
Another solid performance from a consistently excellent business - I’ll be back again; of this I’m sure.
