great service terrible food - Edit

The staff were super friendly but the decor reminded me of a salvation army furniture section. I was excited to find a vegetarian place but they literally just gave me an overcooked boca patty, boring green beans, and gross candied sweet potatoes. And i am very forgiving when it comes to food. I will never go again, though i wish i had liked it because the staff were so awesome.

Pros: friendly service

Cons: terrible food, you will be the only customer there, terrible decor

Geka's is a Gem - Edit

This hidden gem of Elmira was a pleasant experience. The staff are ridiculously friendly, which warms the spirit as you walk into this venue in an off-the-beaten path location. Although the service is slow, it is because all food is homemade and the staff isn't huge. However, considering the other alternatives, I wouldn't hesitate to return!

The menu options included a plethora of home-made choices like rice and beans, lasagna, broccoli with fake meat, salad, corn bread, green beans, sweet potatoes, etc. Very homey-style menu. The portions are generous, so you won't be hungry. When I ate the food, I couldn't eat it all at once, and I was unbelievably hungry. While waiting for my food, I also had a cup of tea - on the house. Very generous.

The cornbread was quite good, and the salad was perfectly wonderful. The side of green beans was boring, but the candied sweet potatoes were great. The brown rice with pinto beans were well flavored and what I had hoped for - filling and hot.

Mmmm... I was bummed that there was no dessert for the day, but that's ok. Happy to find this place in Elmira, where there's nothing else around for vegans!

Pros: Service, Home-made, Portions

Cons: Cash only, If starving - don't go

Yum!! - Edit

Despite the run-down looking neighborhood, it had a beautiful interior and was very welcoming. The food was amazing, and definitely worth the stop. We are staying at Farm Sanctuary, and this is the best food we've had all week!!!!

Pros: awesome food, very nice owner, good prices

Fabulous Vegan Soul Food - Edit

I discovered this hidden little gem in Elmira about 8 months ago and I am so grateful that I did! The food is all so delicious and the staff is very friendly, especially the owner, Pam. She remembers who I am every time I call and even remembers my favorite side of bread that I love. If you are ever in the area (whether you live here or are visiting) you MUST stop by this restaurant. Vegan, vegetarian or just a fan of soul-food, it does not matter, you will love this place. Everything is home-cooked and made to order for each individual customer and the staff is light because the restaurant is small so there is a bit of a wait time but I promise you that if you are a fan of any of the 3 above mentioned things, you will think that the wait is well worth it. Delicious food served by a sweet woman with a heart of gold and the intention of providing us with healthy comfort foods. I'd suggest a dish to try but honestly I've tried several and cannot think of one complaint to make of any of them. They are all great, from the basic "chicken" sandwich to the lasagna, just superb!! If you have been to the Ithaca vegan restaurant (I do think it is delicious as well!) you know that a typical $12 vegan lasagna is just that, the lasagna! But at Geka's for $12 you get the lasagna, TWO sides, a bread AND a salad!! I don't mean to ramble but I really cannot say enough about the good food and the great prices. You get so much for your money. So be sure to check it out next time you are near Elmira! Call ahead and ask for take out if you don't want to dine in!

Pros: Excellent Food, Healthy Food, GREAT Value

Cons: Wait Time (Just call ahead for takeout!)
