Truly earns its Michelin stars

Food that constantly makes you ask how did they do this? So good. Lovely intimate environment. We had a room to ourselves.

Pros: Incredibly creative, Modern french, but with some Asian Fusion, Great cocktails too

Cons: Expensive, but worth it

Wonderful Dining Experience.

This restaurant has a Tasting menu that changes every season, with wonderful staff that talk you through every course. You can enjoy accompanying wines with every dish, or just order as you go.

This is one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.

Pros: 8 Course Tasting Menu, Experienced friendly staff, Calm and enjoyable atmosphere

Dissatisfied & disappointed

I read ‘amazing’ reviews about this place & because I can’t afford £££ for a meal out, I chose the Box Menu which at £75 isn’t cheap.
Utterly disappointed by the bland boil in a bag food. The best thing was the onion & pomegranate marmalade & faux gras (only just). Coconut Broth was shredded carrot & noodles no broth (!!), Daal had a strong acidic taste of vinegar - not daal, the swede was inedible, pear raw, financier fatty and glutinous. If this had been a local eaterie trying to be pretentious I might have forgiven it. But so much praise has been lauded on this place, I feel duped or people have low culinary expectations… Just provide a normal takeaway, cut the pfaff.
I really wanted it to be good and I’m very sorry it isn’t.

Pros: Arrived on time , Nice cardboard box

Cons: Plastic should be biodegradable

Unforgettable experience

After reading so many articles about Alexis Gauthier’s restaurant, I decided to take my partner for a belated birthday meal. What a meal it was!
I could not fault anything- welcome was warm- service was polite and kind- food was out of this world. I can’t think of anywhere in the world ( yes in the world) as a more vegan gastronomic experience. It is very French- it is very classical - it is exceptional.

Fully vegan now

Huge cheers for Gauthier going fully vegan which is also why I had to come here as soon as I heard about it. 2021 has been hands town the best year so far in the plant-based restaurant scene. So many exiting new openings in London, some of which have blown my mind. Sadly, Gauthier is not one of them.

We had the summer tasting menu of 10 courses. All in all I think it was nice, some courses such as Berlingot a la Truffe & Pithivier d’Ete & Comme un Formage were excellent. I do honestly think though that all the remaining courses were underwhelming and random… for example, I found the Blettes de la Mer entirely tasteless, it was supposed to taste a bit fishy and was even served with a sauce, but no flavor whatsoever, of seaweed nor anything else for that matter.

It's not a bad choice for a special occasion though there are much better options in London for a lot less money. When it comes to food, considering the price they charge and the competition, I guess I expected more and left rather unimpressed. I think it’s also worth pointing out that I’m not a huge fan of French cuisine as I prefer more temperamental cuisines that play with a lot of different spices and rich flavors.

In conclusion, nice experience and tasty food but certainly with some room for improvement in terms of menu design and flavors.

Stunning

Had the tasting menu. It was outstanding. I am dreaming of the faux gras and the tortellini. The tortellini blew my mind. It is a shame happy cow won't let me give 5 stars I would give it that

Gauthier 🌱

***Changing my rating to 5 now that Gautier is fully vegan and, as such, HC now allows a 5 star rating!*** 🌱🌱🌱
———————————————
I LOVE Gauthier. This is a top notch Michelin star restaurant offering an innovative and delicious rotating vegan tasting menu. I’ve eaten here twice already and can’t get enough. The presentation is impeccable, and I’ll never forget when they presented a carrot dish with a mostly cooked carrot that they ground up in front of me (with a hand grinder).

The dining space is very intimate. It feels like you’re in the room of someone’s home but you’re separated from other dinners and the lighting is dim. The setup didn’t feel any different pre/post COVID since it was a semiprivate dining experience anyway.

This is a nice place for a celebration or to take someone on a very fancy date.

Now completely Vegan

Visited Gauthier Soho for its reopening lunch service today. The set Summer tasting menu had seven courses for £45, although the first was an "amuse bouche"; truffle risotto was really tasty and the dessert "Louis XV a L'Or" was a knockout for chocolate lovers, similar to Sacher Torte. The switch to completely plant based options was clearly a shock to some of the returning customers, so this has been a brave decision by the proprietor.

Pros: Extremely imaginative vegan courses,, unlikely to be seen elsewhere. , 5 star rating once listed as fully vegan.

Cons: Atmosphere is formal.

Gauthier is proper dining out experience in the heart of the West end. The food is incrediblly well thought out and most importantly, delicious. The service is 5*.

The pate was amazing. Highly recommend.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Service, Location

Cons: Expensive , Not an overly relaxed vibe (very posh)

5⭐ all over

Dining in is a great experience (go for the vegan tasting menu!). Fine dining as you expect it. Delicious food, great service, amazing wine, incredible cosy and romantic atmosphere. Highly recommended!

And the home boxes are excellent too, a great adaptation in these tough times. Worth every penny!

Home delivery box - disappointing

I ordered the Vegan home delivery box as a birthday treat in lockdown. It was very disappointing. I thought out all the courses only one was good. The others were very bland. They forgot to include the dark chocolate truffles. The box was to serve 4 and I know there are a lot of courses and overall it would be enough for 4 at one sitting but the portion sizes would have been minisule - 3 spoonfuls of Kentish carrott veloute in a soup bowl. More care could have been taken with the preparation (e.g. greasy croutons) and packaging (a pear and apple tartin where the party was soaked with the juices and so would never crisp on warming in the oven). I was so disappointed after cooking for myself all these months. I wouldn't order again and perhaps it has put me off visiting the restaurant.

Pros: Delivery was good and on time

Cons: Food was bland, Portions very small, Packaged poorly and lots of plastic

Gourmet vegan food - even during lockdown

While visiting restaurants isn't possible, Gauthier are delivering the restaurant experience in gourmet meal kits. I got the New Year's Eve box, and it was absolutely amazing. The food is outstanding, it was really straightforward to prepare, and quantities were generous. A fantastic treat, which made celebrating really special despite lockdown. Although the box is not cheap, the quality and generosity of it make it excellent value.

Pros: Outstanding food

Fantastic 5 star vegan menu

Exquisite food and service. I loved the fact that the menu vert (vegan) was as exciting and delicate as their regular menu. We paired the food with wines and it was a wonderful experience.

Fantastic!

My partner and I visited for lunch on the day they re-opened following the restaurant having been closed for several months due to COVID-19. We had the vegan tasting menu (I believe this normally consists of 8 courses, however the current offering is 4 courses for lunch, 6/7 for dinner).

Each course was beautifully presented and our waiter explained the contents of each course when served. The dishes were full of flavour and just the right amount.

The meal was good value (£40 pp), especially with the wine pairing offering for an additional £20.

Very attentive staff.

Will definitely be back!

Beautiful, beautiful meal.

We had the full vegan tasting menu with the wine paring. The dishes were amazing from beginning to end. The service was impeccable. The whole dinner was a delight. It's wonderful to experience what chefs at this level can do with a vegan ingredient palate.

Pros: Outstanding flavors, textures and preparation., Careful

Superb

5* in my book. Plante tasting lunch menu was divine, each dish creatively crafted and oh so tasty. Service and atmosphere excellent, so good to be warmly welcomed as a vegan to a French white tablecloth restaurant for a special occasion type of meal.

A taste sensation

I’d give 5 stars if HappyCow would let me. An out of this world culinary experience - felt truly special, and they did vegan oh so well. We had the tasting menu and the food just kept coming - the vegan foie gras and the financier at the start and end of the meal, and the carrot tartar starter all really stood out. The staff made us feel special throughout.

Pros: Vegan haute cuisine, Delicious

Cons: Expensive - but worth it

Wonderful birthday treat

In London for a big birthday so we went for the "deluxe vegan tasting menu" which started with a glass of champagne and vegan foie gras followed by 5 savoury dishes with matching wines and 3 (small) desserts - and finally a birthday cake to take home. First class service with informed and friendly waiters who were happy to answer questions about the dishes and wines. The food was excellent though the birthday cake turned out to have very hard pastry.
Great news is that the restaurant plans to go completely vegan in the next year or two and in fact most of the diners we were sat near were also eating vegan.
