nice little restaurant that seems to be frequented by many locals. unfortunately, their menu is not available in english and not all of the staff speak english. so i had to figure out the dishes with the help of my translation app which was kind of annoying (at least vegan options are labelled).

Read moreVery busy, bustling taberna that is clearly an important part of the neighbourhood. We ordered at the bar but some people ordered at the table.
If you’re not a Basque speaker, knowledge of Spanish is a very good idea around food and ordering terms. Staff will help you out with hand signs and pointing but you will be conscientious and helping them by using as much Spanish as you can.
Drink options seem to be water, wine and beer.
As for the (vegan) food - the menu changes frequently but to give you an idea: the starter we had was a nice vegetable soup with a selection of bread. Our next course we also had the same, tomatoes with cracker-type bread and pesto.
Main course I had albondigas, tofu and vegetable based with a creamy sauce and potatoes. My husband had the rice, tempeh and vegetables. Both were good
Dessert choice is taken at the end, we both had the carob cake which was moist and rich.
For the price, this place is very special. I like the local atmosphere. I feel the style of the menu feels more classic vegan/vegetarian. In the UK many vegan/veg places are opting for heavy use of meat/dairy subs especially in European/Western restaurants. Don’t get me wrong, I love them, but it is also a nice change of pace to have Euro style food based on more traditional ingredients. Someone else here described as like a mother’s cooking and I would agree with that. There is a lot of love to share in this place!

visiting and eating this place really feels like you’re getting to know the kitchens of the local vegetable-based mothers. there’s a couple standout dishes on the menu (like the *not-vegan* pear-and-cheese-stuffed pesto tortellini), but mostly the food reminds of a simple but tasty home-cooked meal, served in a very pleasant and friendly environment.

The staff are so friendly and the food was very tasty. There are clearly labelled vegan options. It is not very expensive. We had 3 plates and 2 beers for €30.

100% would return.
We were lucky and turned up right upon opening. The staff originally said they were full but managed to squeeze us on a table outside. The restaurant was completely full within 10 minutes of opening.

Maybe because it was a weekend, our orders were taken at the table. Or maybe the system has changed. The menu is in Basque and Spanish so I translated a bit of it. Lots of vegan options too. Hopefully I’m starting to learn something. We ordered 4 of the potato balls in a curry sauce. They were huge. Similar to pakora. For my main, I ordered pasta in a coconut curry sauce cooked with vegetables and topped with peanuts. This was a good sized serving and really tasty. I also ordered a ginger kombucha (be warned ahead of the no drinks menu pattern in San Sebastián, it’s interesting) which was good. We didn’t have dessert. My partner had the meatballs and he said they were excellent. It’s a nice space too. Staff were so nice and patient.
