Our Favorite Restaurant!

Every time we go to Garden Cafe, we get something new and delicious.

Their regular menu is extensive and has some real gems (we especially love the chickpea blinis, tofu mango sandwich, red lentil enchiladas, and peppercorn crusted tofu). If you're there in the summer, the watermelon gazpacho is so refreshing. And every dessert we've ever had has been fantastic.

This place is our absolute favorite restaurant in the Hudson Valley, no question.

Great spot, amazing desserts

Came here several times in the month we were in Woodstock. Lots of choices, the bourbon cake was incredible. One or two dishes were not great but so many others were incredible. The service and staff are wonderful, welcoming, and kind. The garden patio is delightful and peaceful. Come and enjoy.

Wonderfully Vegan Fare

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon in early August, they were fairly busy but seated in the garden quickly. The service was friendly and reasonably quick. Thoroughly enjoyed the Buffalo Cauliflower Tacos but they weren’t remotely medium level so if you like them spicy ask for extra hot sauce! The enchilada also tasty, this one had a definite kick but also a bit sweet/savory. Soup of the day was a very delicious Watermelon Gazpacho. Great unsweetened Black Peach Iced Tea and Banana Latte. OH AND THE STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE! Absolutely looking forward to returning to work through the menu.

Delicious Vegan Food

Delicious Caesar Salad with croutons, red onions, and Almonds is always a must have. I also enjoyed the Strawberry Shortcake and the Garlic Scape Pumpkin Seed Pate Bruschetta with Fresh Tomatoes which were specials on the menu today.

Skip dinner go for dessert

They’re expensive, packed with tourists, and their portions are average sized but they are oh so worth it for drinks and dessert. They have rotating desserts that are generally huge and delicious (the mousse is small). Their sake apple lemonade (sub Prosecco) is also straight heaven.

The meals are all things you can make at home but they do season well and get creative on occasion. Personally, I have to order an appetizer with my meal there to not leave hungry, granted I eat a lot. Given that they use local/organic ingredients when they can, their portions/prices can be somewhat justified.

A terrific vegan full-service restaurant

On a recent visit, shortly after the state governor lifted most remaining Covid-19 restrictions, I had a great experience. Also, I have realized that I have never written a review of this local high-point. I first visited it in about 2011, before I had become a Happy Cow member, and just four years after going completely vegan. On my recent weekday visit, I had a Macro[biotic] Meal and a berry-banana smoothie in indoor seating. Oddly, wait service for the indoor seating seemed to be missing until I asked about it. Once I asked, I was quickly given a chance to order, and I was ready with my first item. (At least two wait people were working outdoors, but it may be the chef was doubling as indoor waitperson. Also, the restaurant may still be adjusting to having both indoor and outdoor seating.) I asked for a rice alternative for the Macro Meal, and the chef-server suggested asparagus—a seasonal item that sounded great. (I have been avoiding rice personally because of concerns with environmental toxins in the supply. I am not macrobiotic, but am very whole-food oriented.) The impromptu asparagus and the rest of the Macro Meal turned out to be delicious, as I more or less expected. I had the custom berry-banana smoothie as my desert course, electing soy milk in line with my recent vegan-milk approach, even though it is a sweetened product, to the best of my knowledge. This restaurant knows its vegan food. Over the years, I have greatly enjoyed numerous dishes, including the no-noodle lasagna, burritos, red lentil enchiladas, Indian chickpea blinis, wraps, salads, Garden Bowl of the day, and miso soup. It is often easiest to go at non-busy times if you can, as this is a popular and busy restaurant. Off-peak times might also work well for families. Main dishes in the Entrees section range in price from $15.50 to $22.00, while sandwich entrees range from $10.50 to $16.00. Sandwiches are available whenever the restaurant is open, including traditional supper hours. On the other hand, I find I usually order more than one item. By the way, I have found it helpful to be on the Garden Café Woodstock email mailing list, where I read of the reopening of indoor service, related to the state-level lifting in recent days of pandemic restrictions. (Note: I have had to make a few edits in the minutes after submitting my review. I think I may be done with edits as of 5:35 a.m., June 23.)

Memorable

Planning a trip back to the Catskills this week and was browsing the app for eateries and remembered how much we enjoyed eating here. Such a quaint and lovely place to grab a bite and the food was wonderful. Planning top stop for lunch again in the way to new paltz,

Man, I wish I lived closer

This place is such a treat! TL;DR: very friendly service, excellent food.
I had the mushroom panini, which came with a legitimate salad as the side salad, not the usual two bites of lettuce that is often the case, and the sandwich was so, so yummy, and a very generous portion. My boyfriend had the red bean and sweet potato burger, which was tasty, but not as good as my panini. We shared the apple bread pudding for dessert, and I also got a chai latte that could only be described as life changing. Like, I live 2 hours away, and I'm actually considering going back just for that chai. The restaurant itself is very charming, and I can't wait to go back post-pandemic when we can actually sit inside and enjoy it.

Mediocre at best

We ate here twice during a trip and I honestly don’t understand all the good reviews. The food is bland and barely seasoned and they make such strange choices, like half of the bean burrito is salad greens and whole slices of tomatoes. Soggy steamed kale with not even salt or garlic as a side dish. Maybe I’m spoiled by NYC restaurants, but this is the only place I can recall within years where I haven’t wanted to finish my plate.

Pros: It’s the only vegan restaurant nearby

Simply amazing every time

I hadn't been to the Garden Cafe in a while, and it had changed ownership in the interim. If anything, it is better than before, and it was pretty great before. I noticed a little friendlier attitude by the staff, and a bit more efficient service. I was here with my daughter and her boyfriend, both omnis. We all loved our meals. I started with the watermelon gazpacho, which had large chunks of honeydew in it, which is my favorite melon, so this was a great way to start my dinner. The table shared a large Caesar salad, which is a Garden Cafe classic, and it is exactly the same as before, which is to say, excellent. I smuggled in some home grown cherry tomatoes to top it off. I ordered lasagna for my main entree, my daughter had a spinach strawberry salad, and her boyfriend had a macro bowl. Everything was amazingly fresh and flavorful, and portions were generous. We also had a couple of their very purple berry smoothies, and my daughter had an iced soy latte. We ordered two desserts, an apple crisp a la mode, and an apple bread pudding. Both were very good, and not overly sweet. I wish they would have had a peach crisp available, but no luck, at least that day. Our bill came to exactly $100 before tip, and the ambience of their outdoor patio was like an oasis.

Pros: Outstanding quality food, Friendly, efficient service

Cons: Parking is always tricky in Woodstock, No bargains here, but you get what you pay for.

Lovely lunch al Fresco

We were able to sit in their large, tree-covered outside dining area, a real boon during COVID times. Table were appropriately spaced and staff was consistently masked. W enjoyed the peanut satay for an appetizer- they got the texture of the tofu just right - firm and “ to the tooth”. We both ordered the noodle-less lasagne, full of properly cooked vegetables o. A well spiced tomato sauce with a touch of a lovely cashew sauce. A really wonderful experience.

Pros: Outside dining in verdant space , Lovely staff, Delicious food

This has got to be one of the vegan places ever. Their food is incredible and so fresh. Not to mention the most beautiful outdoor garden you can eat in. Prices are normal-high end. Absolutely worth it!
