Superb! - Edit
A traditional Korean restaurant, but vegan :). Totally delicious and filling food. There are several menus available and the staff speaks a little English, so there is no communication problem. I can't choose what to recommend, everything was very good.

Check photos for pic of the new entrance to the restaurant, the other reviews have the old place (address is the correct one).

Fresh and traditional vegan fare - Edit
We had the menu for two (the second most expensive option, it was an incredible value) with stew, bonchon, and tteok dessert. The bonchon included several vegan proteins and kimchi in forms that are hard to find outside Korea, like tomato kimchi. Fresh ingredients from the owner’s garden at a great price with friendly vegan vibes—what’s not to love?

Delicious meal - Edit
We both got the smaller meal ($15,000KRW) and it was fantastic. Doenjang jjigae, rice, tea and lots of delicious banchan. Located on lower level of Korea Traditional Cultural Center, current address was correct in NAVER and Google maps.

Wow! - Edit
We just had the best food! We ordered the menu for 22.000 ₩ and got around 15 side dishes, a mushroom tofu stew and a couple of other dishes. All of them were great and full of flavor. It is best to make a reservation since there was a sign on our first try that said that they ran out of food. We came again on the next day and it was well worth it!

great meal to share with friends - Edit
The food here was fresh and there were many different varieties of veggies and cooking preparations. My hands down favorite were the mushrooms.

Amazing Farm-to-table Restaurant 5 STARS - Edit
This is favorite vegan restaurant in Jeonju! (Korean name 감로헌) While not a singularly vegan restaurant, they offer a vegan version of their set menu at a discount (10,000won per person instead of 15,000won per person for the meat set). *****The vegan menu is not clearly shown yet (I hope to change this) so in the meantime you must tell the staff that your table is VEGAN, then they will happily provide the vegan menu for you. The meat menu is slightly different, it just includes a side of bulgolgi, but the "meat" menu soup (doenjangjjigae) includes anchovy, so PLEASE tell them you're VEGAN!!******
Read moreThe chef and owner of Gamloheon, 조현주, focuses on creating medicinal food featuring vegetables grown in her own garden. This style of food is most popular with older Koreans as they greatly appreciate the health benefits of each dish, which either Ms. Cho or the staff members will happily explain to you. Her attention to detail and craft in the kitchen sets her restaurant apart from many places in town. Additionally, because of the changing seasons, Ms. Cho adjusts her menu to feature the best ingredients at that moment, resulting in a slightly different meal each time.
Each meal starts with a hot tea (the current offering is eggplant) followed by a vegan vegetable soup, yellow rice, and at least 15 different banchans (side dishes). I always immediately go for the fried banchan but then work my way through each side dish to find a favorite. This week, my favorite was a dehydrated fruit topped with a rich, almost gochujang-like sauce, though I always enjoy the fruit salad topped with a creamy tofu sauce. It reminds me of the Waldorf salad my mom used to serve at Thanksgiving, but with a Korean twist! The delicious spread finishes with another tea: a cold, bitter citron tea meant to help with your digestion.
Last month Ms. Cho only had floor seating, but she recently changed to offer chairs to appeal to foreigner travelers.
Reservations are highly recommended as peak meal times can be busy and she may run out of banchan! You can easily walk to Gamloheon from the new gate of Chonbuk National University as it is located in the Geumam neighborhood of Jeonju. I always recommend Gamloheon as a way to impress your visiting friends and family, regardless of whether or not they are vegan!
