Owner is really friendly and helpful

In the middle of beef country, we discovered this tiny little cafe at the start of an arcade, next to the council offices. It caught my eye when there was a billboard out the front stating they do coffee with rice or coconut milk.

When I went in I had only expected to buy some vegie chips, but the owner said I could have them for free because she'd been disappointed by them and felt bad charging me. Her generosity was sincere, so I grabbed a bag of sweet potato chips so she had a sale.

There was a dairy free banana bread on the counter so I asked her if it had egg, she said it did. She realised I was vegan and told me she had some frozen vegan snacks. She then showed me her stash of Naked Treaties chocolates and I was sold. I grabbed some Nickers bars and then she revealed her vegan cheesecakes! She also had a roast vegetable salad she could do for vegans.

I was so excited to discover all this vegan food in regional Queensland where you're likely to be keelhauled for being vegan, let alone fed. Yet here was this lovely lady in Bundaberg chatting to me about being vegan. I wouldn't have thought anyone in the town would know what it even meant.

We started chatting about the lack of vegan food in the area and she said it's why she started her cafe, because she is coeliac and almost vegan herself, so she wanted to give similar people a place to eat. I truly hope she gets lots of support because she was very kind to me and suggested other places I might be able to eat in nearby cities. It might be small, but you'll be treated with a smile.

Pros: Offers non-dairy milks, Has Naked Treaties and vegan cheesecake, Friendly and helpful owner.

Cons: Small shop so not huge variety
