Great vibe

They have vegan pies but also a delicious falafel burger…..my partner had a chicken schnitzel and it was huge (and delicious he said 😉)

Delicious vegan pie

They had several vegan options and the vegan pie was delicious. They also have several vegan desserts. We were thrilled.

meh - was okay

It’s nice to have vegan options, that’s for sure! That being said, there are a few things we didn’t like: I ordered a vegan meat pie and it was served with a small garnish that looked like ceasar’s salad - I was suspicious and when asked, the staff confirmed that the dressing wasn’t vegan. We also ordered fries and asked if they were vegan, which they were. The fries were then served with aioli, that wasn’t vegan. The vegan snickers was served with a drizzle of chocolate sauce - we inquired again, but this time it really was vegan. We weren’t offered a vegan menu and it’s not on the table.

Pros: a few options, Friendly staff

Cons: garnishes not vegan

Vegan options available

It has options for pies and rolls and some desserts as well.
And plenty of options for plant based milk.
It's very rare for such a small city.

I enjoyed my coffee ☕ and pie 🥧
Would recommend for you to stop by for breakfast.
They also do lunch and dinner.

Breakfast (and went back for lunch!)

We arrived for breakfast before our helicopter ride. Sadly the rain meant the helicopter ride was cancelled so it meant we could have a proper breakfast not just a grab and go.
Some vegan option and lots of veggie options.
We also didn’t have to wait long, even though they were busy.
This place is an absolute delight. Great food and amazing coffee. It was so good we went back for our lunch and had this as a takeaway.

Pros: Food, Coffee, Good vibes

Cons: Busy (but that is also a good sign)

A few options

This place had two kinds of vegan pies and a vegan ‘sausage’ roll available, as well as two deserts, and plenty of plant milks. The vegan cheese in one of the pies was a bit gross but very glad to see options in such a small town 😊

Pros: Atmosphere, Multiple options, Deserts

Cons: Vegan cheese

Pastry breakfast options

Stopped in for coffee and found they have a vegan sausage roll in the display case. Wasn’t listed on menu.

A bit dry but not bad overall if you’re looking for something to get going. Decent vibe for the place overall.

Cute cafe for breakfast and Lunch

This is a lovely place for a travel stop or even lunch.
Sadly they charge plant based milk very highly (1.20$).
The vegan options are rare, but well marked.
And they are absolute delicious!!!!
We had the two different vegan pies and a vegan snickers. I highly recommend this place!

Pros: Free Wi-Fi, Cozy place, Friendly staff

Cons: High extra cost for plant based milk

Good considering remote location

Asked about vegan menu and they seemed confused so I think they no longer have a designated menu unfortunately! Still had a couple of options including vegan sausage roll and pie also some sweet treat options which was a bonus, wait staff were nice!

Lovely and affordable

Kamal was very helpful and gave me the vegan menu (how amazing right?).
The falafel wrap was a tad bland, but they got lots of sauces to add.
Very nice having nice options in such a remote place.
They do also have oat milk, soy and almond :)
And vegan sweets, like ginger slice and mud cake.

Pros: Good selections, Good prices, Nice fresh veggies

Great food, huge servings, great service

The vegan menu has some good options. The bolognese was super tasty but as it was such a large serving we took a doggie bag. Friendly service. We swapped the hot dog for nuggets which were yummy. We got banana muffins to takeaway

Would give 5 stars if we could!

This wee cafe in Franz Joseph is fantastic. We've been here a couple of times on separate trips now. The only reason we've not given a 5 star rating is simply because the website doesn't allow that if the place isn't fully vegan/ vegetarian.

As at March 2021 they have a number of really good vegan and vegetarian options - vegan pie, big green breakfast (vegan), vegan hotdog (on a stick) with fries, falafel chipotle wrap, etc - see the added menu photo :)

The service from all the staff was great too (especially the guy who said 'No need to get up - this is our place, we'll come to you', and the young Asian woman who was really lovely and very helpful).

If you're in the area this place is absolutely recommended!

Tofu "burger"

The restaurant was really nice and funky, food was quick and staff were friendly. The meal was a couple of bits of undercooked tofu in a bread bun though, the sauce and veg were nice but the tofu should have been better and more of it... But was only $13.50

Pros: A few vegan options , Nice place, cool vibe, Friendly staff

Cons: Limited vegan options, Average quality meal

Bread not vegan

Tried to order simple toast for breakfast as was told that none of their house made bread was vegan.

Pros: Did have a vegan carrot cake in the display case.

Limited options - soy latte was good.

Couldn’t see any vegan options on the menu and no vegan options in the cake/sandwich window. Stopped in for a coffee only instead which was good. Free WiFi available and plenty of seating outside (great for people watching on a nice day) and inside.

Pros: Coffee

Cons: No listed vegan menu items

Vegan options exist

Their menu still has the falafel and tofu options that happy cow described. We just came for an afternoon pick-me-up of coffee and pie. They had good New Zealand coffee with soymilk as an option. They also had a vegan carrot cake and vegetable pie which I confirmed was vegan. The pie had flaky pastry dough and a potato filling. Definitely an option for vegans.

Pros: Soymilk for coffee, Quick vegan options

Cons: No dedicated vegan options in main menu
