meh - was okay - Edit
It’s nice to have vegan options, that’s for sure! That being said, there are a few things we didn’t like: I ordered a vegan meat pie and it was served with a small garnish that looked like ceasar’s salad - I was suspicious and when asked, the staff confirmed that the dressing wasn’t vegan. We also ordered fries and asked if they were vegan, which they were. The fries were then served with aioli, that wasn’t vegan. The vegan snickers was served with a drizzle of chocolate sauce - we inquired again, but this time it really was vegan. We weren’t offered a vegan menu and it’s not on the table.

It's very rare for such a small city.

Would recommend for you to stop by for breakfast.

Breakfast (and went back for lunch!) - Edit
We arrived for breakfast before our helicopter ride. Sadly the rain meant the helicopter ride was cancelled so it meant we could have a proper breakfast not just a grab and go.
Read moreSome vegan option and lots of veggie options.
We also didn’t have to wait long, even though they were busy.
This place is an absolute delight. Great food and amazing coffee. It was so good we went back for our lunch and had this as a takeaway.
Pros: Food, Coffee, Good vibes
Cons: Busy (but that is also a good sign)

A few options - Edit
This place had two kinds of vegan pies and a vegan ‘sausage’ roll available, as well as two deserts, and plenty of plant milks. The vegan cheese in one of the pies was a bit gross but very glad to see options in such a small town 😊

Stopped in for coffee and found they have a vegan sausage roll in the display case. Wasn’t listed on menu.

Good considering remote location - Edit
Asked about vegan menu and they seemed confused so I think they no longer have a designated menu unfortunately! Still had a couple of options including vegan sausage roll and pie also some sweet treat options which was a bonus, wait staff were nice!

Great food, huge servings, great service - Edit
The vegan menu has some good options. The bolognese was super tasty but as it was such a large serving we took a doggie bag. Friendly service. We swapped the hot dog for nuggets which were yummy. We got banana muffins to takeaway

Would give 5 stars if we could! - Edit
This wee cafe in Franz Joseph is fantastic. We've been here a couple of times on separate trips now. The only reason we've not given a 5 star rating is simply because the website doesn't allow that if the place isn't fully vegan/ vegetarian.
Read moreAs at March 2021 they have a number of really good vegan and vegetarian options - vegan pie, big green breakfast (vegan), vegan hotdog (on a stick) with fries, falafel chipotle wrap, etc - see the added menu photo :)
The service from all the staff was great too (especially the guy who said 'No need to get up - this is our place, we'll come to you', and the young Asian woman who was really lovely and very helpful).
If you're in the area this place is absolutely recommended!

Tofu "burger" - Edit
The restaurant was really nice and funky, food was quick and staff were friendly. The meal was a couple of bits of undercooked tofu in a bread bun though, the sauce and veg were nice but the tofu should have been better and more of it... But was only $13.50

Limited options - soy latte was good. - Edit
Couldn’t see any vegan options on the menu and no vegan options in the cake/sandwich window. Stopped in for a coffee only instead which was good. Free WiFi available and plenty of seating outside (great for people watching on a nice day) and inside.

Vegan options exist - Edit
Their menu still has the falafel and tofu options that happy cow described. We just came for an afternoon pick-me-up of coffee and pie. They had good New Zealand coffee with soymilk as an option. They also had a vegan carrot cake and vegetable pie which I confirmed was vegan. The pie had flaky pastry dough and a potato filling. Definitely an option for vegans.

Cons: No dedicated vegan options in main menu
