Serves meat, vegan options available. Small sushi restaurant offering a vegan vegetable platter and miso soup. A few a la carte vegan choices. Has sake. Reported closed, Jan '22.
I think this place is no longer here. Did not see it anywhere when I was in El Calafate in Dec 2021. It says it’s permanently closed on google as well.
Asked waitress to not to add some veg to sushi, she refused. Asked if they can make just avocado maki, she refused. No explanation, just no. Have to order exactly what in the menu, no changes. Decided to leave without any order. ‘Thanks’ for your terrible attitude.
Also we came right by opening time at 7pm, walked in, no customers yet and place stunk of cigarette smoke! Obviously owner or waiters or cook smoke inside.
I ate the vegan sushi there and it was really delicious. The green tea was lovely too. Together with the atmosphere I almost felt like in the Japanese countryside. The owners are lovely too.
Tired of looking for some vegan food for dinner we thankfully tried this place. The waitress read my Vegan Passport and said she would bring us some food. We waited a while but then she brought out two bowls of vegan sushi. It was delicious, price approx £24 English pounds. I would recommend.
Favorite Restaurant In El Calafate - Great Sushi! - Edit
I thoroughly enjoyed my vegan sushi at this cosy Calafate Japanese restaurant run by a Japanese couple who know how to make vegan sushi perfectly. I have eaten at a number of veg-friendly restaurants in town, and the ¨Vegetariano¨ here is my favorite vegan dish here -- very fresh and beautifully presented.
I have eaten at a number of sushi places in South America, and this is my favorite.
I can only agree with previous reviewers: this place is fantastic. The sushi is eminently made, the miso soup is delicious (but note: there’s a shrimp or two hiding at the bottom, so it’s definitely not vegetarian!), the combos are good sizes and surprisingly fairly priced for El Calafate.
Would definitely rate this five stars if the site would let me.
In a country where we so often eat pizza and papas fritas, this little sushi bar was heaven for my eyes. We have now had their vegetarian platter (x2) numerous times (we ask for it to be made without mayonnaise, but we aren't sure that it normally comes with it) and we still aren't tired of it. Their wasabi is delicious, their avocados are fresh and ripe, and their miso soup is hot and tasty. They even have hot sake for those cold, windy nights. Definitely give them a go!
I would give this place 5 stars, but Happy Cow tells me 4 is the maximum allowed for a non-veg restaurant!
We went for dinner as a group of 3 and sat at the counter. There are 6 seats at the counter and 2 tables with 4 chairs each. The only option is the vegetarian platter, but I could not have have for anything better! Everything was really fresh and beautifully presented! We got nice variety in our rolls. We loved the ginger so much that we asked for extra. And the wasabi comes in a cute little pot with tiny spoon, so you can use only what you need and none is wasted. The wasabi was a brighter green than I've ever seen, and I actually liked it, when normally I HATE wasabi! We also ordered a cheap bottle of wine and the adzuki bean dessert. None of us had ever tried this dessert before, but it was soooo good, especially with the cucumber garnish mixed in! We would eat here again in a heart beat! Our total cost per person for meal, wine and dessert was US$15 (at our current exchange rate) which we thought was very reasonable. The owners were very nice as well.
Options in El Calfate are limited but we found Fugi Sushi located off Julio St in the Paseo de Los Pajaros. There is a "vegetarian" rolls option with 13 pieces of vegetable sushi and then you can order individual vegetable sushi rolls, we had carrot, avocado and cucumber. along with a very good but small miso soup. This place is a sushi bar and does not have a kitchen so only the soup and sushi is offered. no noodles.
It is open 12-3 and 6 or so to maybe 10…only looked at the lunch hours.
Great little place and we really enjoyed our meal. It was very fresh owned by a Japanese woman and her husband. take out available. It is small with only 4 tables but also you can sit at the sushi bar.
