Tea in cuisine - Edit
We arrived at this shop at 11:45am on a Wednesday and asked whether the kitchen was open. The man running the place told us that he’d make a batch of vermicelli at 12:00pm for a tour group scheduled to arrive, so he would just make enough for them and us if we wanted to dine there. The simple menu of tea-infused items attracted us to stay.
Read moreHe kept refilling the little glass pitcher that he brought out to our table with more green tea as we continued dining it. It was cold and refreshing after hiking around Pinglin. The vermicelli came in a generous helping, and he gave us a little bit more to avoid wasting any of what remained from the batch he cooked up. (A couple that wandered by around 1:45pm were told that no vermicelli was left.)
The tea-infused mochi tasted great, as did the tea jelly. Would highly recommend for any vegans exploring Pinglin!
Pros: affordable, nice shopkeeper, a taste of local agricultural products
Cons: kitchen not always open

a rare spot - Edit
Nothing showed in this town when we arrived but were able to chat with a friendly local that took us to this place. They understand "全素" (quán sù) or strict vegetarian and had a plate of noodles infused with tea, agar jelly infused with tea, a red bean mochi with you guessed it, tea. Great little meal if you're here for the day!
