Delicious food, lots of choices! - Edit

Thanks to the review that included the easy to find directions--without the extra help of getting in the right building I may have never found it and I am staying at the hotel right around the corner! If you go into the doors next to the KFC the escalator is right there and the restaurant right at the top.

The restaurant is very nice inside and the staff are very friendly and attentive. There are some English speaking staff although their English is limited. The menu is extensive with many mock meat dishes to choose from. The English descriptions provided are not really good at describing the dish ("coming fortune" and "the lovesick roll") but there are accurate pictures of each dish.

Each dish is well portioned with plenty for one person (or enough to share a couple of dishes with friends) The menu does accurately describe the flavor of each dish (spicy, salty, sweet spicy)

In addition to delicious foods, they also have a small assortment of packaged items for purchase, including vegetarian seasonings, teas, veggie lamb kebabs, veggie sausages, and various other food items.

I have eaten there almost every night for a week now and with two more months in this area I am sure plenty of other times! Definitely worth hunting it out!

Pros: excellent food, good value, many options

Cons: only open until 9pm

Scrumptious food - loads of choice - Edit

Fantastic choice (40 page colour picture menu) with not very helpful English translations "silk pockets" etc. Staff were friendly but didn't seem to speak any English. Had two spicy Sichuan style dishes, which were wonderful, and noodles with spicy sauce, which was a complemented them well and some kind of fried bread with bean paste in the middle. Still feeling rather full, too much for one person, even a greedy vegan like me!

Biggest problem is it is hard to find. It is on the second floor (one up from the ground floor)of the Shirble Department store on Binhai Road, where it crosses Nanhai Road. However, if the ground floor looks like a food supermarket, go back onto the street, walk down Binhai Road away from Nanhai Road, until you cross a small alley, then go back inside, up one floor on an escalator, and you're there. Maybe it's me, but the worst thing about Happy Cow is the unreliability of the maps (gone hungry a few times!!)

Pros: Excellent range of choices , Might as well be vegan , Relatively cheap - Stuffed for RMB 100

Cons: No beer, No English speaking staff
