Busy but spacious spot with filling food (4/5 Green Stars) - Edit
I arrived at what was probably close to peak time – around 10 AM on Sunday. The line was quite long and the food took a good while to arrive. I would have been wondering if it was forgotten except that I could see that everyone’s food was taking around 15 mins to come out. I didn’t mind – I had my coffee and excellent people-watching entertainment. The clientele ranges from locals in cowboy gear, rainbow gear, or tats and baseball hats, to tourists, UCLA hotties in faux fur, and geeks on laptops (that’s me). The contrast is pretty funny.
Read moreI appreciated that the server at the counter took a minute to explain that they only use veggie sausage in their sandwiches so there’s no chance of a mix-up. My breakfast sandwich (veggie sausage, egg, and cheddar) was very filling and the side of veggie bacon (seitan) was tasty but salty. (Pro-tip: take some veggie bacon for your hike as salty snacks are good to replenish your electrolytes). The coffee was just okay – I just had a drip and it seemed over-roasted to me (I’ve heard others say this about beans from Joshua Tree Coffee). A medium/light toast would be better, in my opinion. Prices are reasonable and there’s a nice mix of cool inside seating and sun or shade outside. Props to the friendly staff.
I’m giving the Frontier Café 4.5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following:
• A large amount of the menu is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
• It’s actually a genius move to just replace regular sausage with veggie version and make that standard in the breakfast sandwich. It’s an excellent way to show people who might otherwise never try the veggie option, that meat substitutes are pretty good these days.
• Cool homemade items like vegan bacon (seitan) and vegan cookies.
• Coffee beans are organic – from Joshua Tree Coffee, I believe, since they sell their beans there too. JT coffee is above-average in terms of environmental impact.
• Food is served in compostable trays.
• I like the little details like fair trade certified sugar and the interesting United Sodas drinks for sale.
• Inclusive place that feels welcoming to everyone and, through this, brings people together.
• Room for improvement: ditch the beef. It has much larger environmental footprints than other meats.
Pros: veggie sausage as standard , vegan bacon is much cheaper an pig-derived
Cons: Does serve meat.

Delicious - Edit
This was my favorite restaurant in the area. The food reminded me of old time veg food, before beyond/impossible took over the scene. I especially loved the tempeh BLT and the potato salad. My omni friends liked it too.

Vegan BLT - Edit
The vegan BLT is so good. Best I’ve had for sure. I almost didn’t come here because of the other review about a couples total being over $80 but luckily looked up prices before deciding. The vegan BLT is $15.

Best Lunch Spot - Edit
I make sure to stop here for lunch on every trip to JT. The Green Dream Sandwich is delicious and so is the potato salad. The BLT is also a great option, I love the flavoring of the tempeh.

Great tasty vegan sandwiches and plant based milk - Edit
There are 3 vegan options for sandwiches, my partner and I tried the Green Dream (lighter, tasty) that the staff recommended, and the vegan BLT.

We were going to Joshua tree and found this all vegan restaurant and had to stop. Hummus was lovely, and I got a turmeric ginger late which was so unique.

Lots of vegan options - Edit
I love that their bagels are vegan and they have an artichoke cashew spread for them, so you can get something cheap (about $5) if you don’t want to pay $14 for a vegan sandwich. They have about as many vegan options as they do non-vegan, and they have plant milk and stuff. They could be fully vegan, but this is the desert so it’s just nice that they even have options.

We recently moved from Palm Springs to Yucca Valley and have eaten at the Frontier several times. Fave sandwich is the Vegan BLT (with super tasty tempeh bacon and a generous slather of Veganaise) with a side of delicious vegan potato salad. If they’re out of the vegan BLT, try the Avocado Tartine or Green Dream sandwich. Tasty coffee drinks (Joshua Tree Coffee Company), good selection of plant-based milks and the occasional vegan baked goods which tend to run out by mid-morning, please bake more for the afternoon crowd! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Vegan Getty - Edit
The atmosphere was really attractive. The convenience of the location was good. The food was filling and the beverages were satisfactory. I would say that for the hungry this place is a real catch. Or in other words vegan getty. It really gets vegans to come. I would not unwaveringly say that the place is vegan friendly but rather vegan getty. The cashier was having a conversation with a customer in agreement about the unhealthiness of the vegan diet. In a casual discourse the cashier mentioned that they have switched to vegan milk completely because of popular demand by out of towners to which she called hipsters and I thought of as vegans. So I suspect that this place quite fairly suits the tastes of its customers in turn really getting the vegan turn out. You can expect vegetarian food that suits a vegetarian and some vegans tastes here.

A nice place to meet friends - Edit
We enjoyed our dinner here. I had the southwest salad and it was delicious. It has a low-key but pretty interior with a coffee house vibe. I was told by my friend that sometimes they have entertainment. The kitchen closed early the night we were there so check the hours before going there for dinner.
