Try the Joppie sauce

The location is nice, with tables inside and outside overlooking the lake. The order is called by number on the receipt. The vegan options are clearly marked with a green leaf. There are a lot of vegan dips, but unfortunately only one special. For me the tomato curry dip was a bit too sweet, but Joppie tasted really good! The fries were okay, but quickly mushy because the dip just came on top.

Good fries - ok price

I had the vegan Bruschetta fries with garlic, Guacamole and tomatos and they were very delicious (see picture). The price was 5,90 € which is ok in my opinion.

Really, REALLY good Fries are hard to come by... 😉

Our next stop while trying the vegan offers in and around Dortmund was the Frittenküche. Beautifully located at the Phönixsee, it invited to try homemade fries. So we went to the sales window and ordered two portions of garlic fries with guacamole. We don't know much about guacamole and otherwise don't order it, but unfortunately there was no other vegan sauce with the fries, which is a real shame. This can be done better . The garlic fries that appealed to us out of the three possible variants (house fries, sweet potato fries and garlic fries) were delicious, but for us garlic fans they could have used a whole lot more garlic. We were also missing some salt. This could be a matter of taste, but we noticed. But they were homemade and nice and crispy. The guacamole unfortunately was not of our kind. We found them bland. But we don't want to overestimate that, as we don't really know or appreciate guacamole per se, so that can be intentional. The price of € 3.50 per bowl of garlic fries + extra sauce (€ 1.20 for the guacamole) is okay in our opinion. What made us very happy is that the Frittenküche relies on Fritz Cola / Limo instead of drinks from the PepsiCo or Coca Cola companies. When we're back at Phönixsee and our mind is for fries, we will definitely visit the Frittenküche again, but we hope that the vegan sauce / topping offer will be expanded in the future.

Pros: crispy

Cons: only one vegan sauce, bland
