Great cafe, lunch spot and store - Edit

I've had lunch here many times and it's been great, I most recently went for a soy mocha and a scone, both of which were delicious. The wholefoods store has lots of produce and enables people to avoid excess packaging. The staff are friendly and the cafe area is a spacious, light filled area to enjoy your food. I plan to visit again soon!

Delicious Vegan Lunch and Danish - Edit

The lunch is awesome. One of my favourites around the area. And they do vegan Danish. Great for lunch or a morning snack.

Great Place - Edit

This is a lovely little cafe/store. Always good to hear in just on lunch time, have a plate (which is about 4 or 5 different dishes) as well as a cup of tea or coffee, then do some grocery shopping. you need to bring your own containers and bags which I love. Such a great feeling and atmosphere here

Pros: Food, Groceries, Friendly staff

Cons: groceries can be expensive

wholesome and reliable - Edit

I've never had a bad meal at FOE which is pretty remarkable given that the dishes served up on the lunch plates are created by different volunteers every day. Rather than being hit and miss as I'd expect, there's always diversity and a balance of dishes, lovingly and artfully prepared. Their bulk wholefoods and fresh produce section is always well stocked and comparably priced.

Sometimes you need to be a bit patient with surly staff but most of the volunteers are gorgeous and friendly and you have to respect the people that are donating their time (and have done for years) to make nutritious, delicious, ethical food accessible to as many people as possible. I'm not involved with the co-op myself but have an understanding of the time and energy these folks put in, and how draining that can be. Give 'em a break, alright?

Unfriendly staff - Edit

This is a nice place, which has some nice food and organic drinks, but when I was there the service was horrible. The older lady behind the counter was pretty rude to me for no reason what so ever. I hope other people had better experiences when they were there, I would not recommend this place because of their appaling service.

Pros: Nice food

Cons: Rude staff

Guilt free! - Edit

haven't actually eaten there, as most things have sesame in them (and I'm allergic) but loved the raw chocolate they sell.
great range of books, some great clothing, jewellery and the organice produce is always great value.
Staff are friendly, love the idea of taking your own containers too.
Sometimes though you can feel a bit judged by staff if you aren't dressed more bohemian.
My partner had a soy latte there too - he's a fussy coffee drinker but he loved it!

wasn't overly impressed - Edit

this place has great community feel seems to always have lots of people hanging out. it has great reading material and groceries. as for the cafe part, we were put off by waitresses B.O and hairy armpits in a vest but granted that wont happen everytime, the food was ok a like dry where it's canteen style. won't be eating again but will shop again

Pros: groceries, reading material, hang out with friends for coffee

Cons: dry cake

Large diversity in one shop! - Edit

Friends of the easrth (FOE) serves lunch around midday which is around $6 for a small plate and $8 for a large. Always vegetarian, just need to ask for vegan only. It is a mixed plate usually 2 warm dishes and 2 salad dishes. There are also many deserts and some are gluten free and vegan, ingredients are shown next to the item. There is also a well stocked mostly organic Co-Op and fresh produce. Nuts, grains, oils, herbs, spices, pasta, teas and coffee and packaged products too.
Also at the front of the shop are many items that are recycled and locally made stationary, clothes, books and other items. One of my favourite places and the place I choose to eat my lack meal in melbourne before i left the country.

The chefs are voluntary and dishes can be quite diverse but are always quite delicious and creative.

Pros: Vegan options, deserts, chocolates

Cons: not open sundays

Love the place! - Edit

The lunch plate is excellent! It tastes good, and fills your belly. They also have delicious cakes and they have coffee. Good place to have a healthy cheap lunch. Also have a good selection of grocery items, literature and clothing. And proceeds go to a good cause!

Pros: good value for money, organic, wholesome food
