Not the Kind of “Friendly” I Was Expecting - Edit
I was really disappointed with my experience at Friendly House Restaurant in Berat. The food was okay, but the behaviour of one of the staff members was completely unprofessional. A young male staff member, who looked to be around 20, was openly hitting on male customers and trying to get them to take him back to where they were staying. It made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable and awkward. I came to enjoy a meal, not to watch staff flirt with customers in such an inappropriate way. Definitely not what I expected from a place that calls itself “Friendly.”

A very cozy restaurant in the historic Mangalem quarter with traditional furnishing. - Edit
Out of the three restaurants we visited in Berat, this had the tastiest meals. A very obliging waiter with good English advised us what was vegan on the menu, checked with the kitchen staff and warned us that the potatoes were prepared in the same oil as meat. That was disappointing news, but the meals we eventually ordered made up for it. The two of us shared stuffed eggplant and stuffed pepper. The latter contains rice, so if you combine these two meals, you get just the right proportion of veggies and a starchy side dish. However, we didn’t know that, so both of us ordered spaghetti with tomato sauce (without cheese) as well. Everything was delicious. Unfortunately, we were so hungry that we didn’t take any photos before devouring the food. We were less satisfied with the drinks. “Juice” turned out to be water with syrup and tea was served in a too small cup. In case you’re wondering about protein: We didn’t encounter any plant protein sources on any traditional restaurant menu in Albania.
