Wide range of food - Edit
Lovely setting and we were the only people there on a weeknight. Huge menu with different cuisines. The shwarma starter was not at all what we were expecting, but it looked beautiful and the seitan was fantastic. The fried rice was a typical fried rice, nothing special. The ramen was a bit of a let down, with a broth that tasted like mushroom stock cubes and overall it didn't have much flavour. I liked the variety of vegetables but it wasn't very filling.

Wide range of options! - Edit
🍲 Today we walked 1.5 kilometer to another one of Cuenca, Ecuador’s highest rated 100% Vegan Restaurants @ “ Fratello Vegan Cuenca “. Lunch was very nice because it’s all outdoor seating and it was raining but we were covered overhead and got to enjoy both the sound of the rain the river right next to us. For beverages we had local grown Hot Chocolate & Kefir for the beneficial pro-biotics. Appetizers were 1) a version of Ceviche with oyster mushrooms & avocados and 2) another somewhat similar variation of that but tomatoe based. Both were served with plantain chips. Our entree was a plantain salad French fries with Padano Sauce and (not pictured here) Ecuadorian style potatoes. Dessert was chocolate iced carrot cake with vanilla ice cream. We paid $24 total for the meal. Muy bueno delicioso me gusta mucho! They serve many vegan meat dishes, pizzas, and tons of other junk foods. We’re loving eating more Ecuadorian inspired dishes. We’d happily return here!

Delicious ecuadorian vegan food - Edit
We ordered two starters and two main dishes. The dishes were abundant and approved by my ecuadorian partner.
Read moreFor starters we tried the cevichocho and the mushroom ceviche. The mushroom ceviche was amazing!
As mains the fritada had everything the original dish has with Saiten as meat substitute. The Saiten with pineapple had a salad on the side and tasted amazing.
The plates were big and filled. Id recommend to order less and reorder if wanted.
Pros: Fried pineapple , Mushroom ceviche , River view

Five stars as the ONLY vegan restaurant i found in Cuenca - Edit
OK, some of the dishes are not the absolute best, but given the variety of the menu AND the fact that it is the only fully VEGAN restaurant around, I want to reward this place.
Read moreI have been a number of times. You will need to pick and choose and try various plates to see what is good. There are some very good dishes with seitan (used in tacos and noodle stir frys, etc). Not sure if it is homemade, but I found it very tasty. Pasta dishes are good. With some patience, you might like the risotto. Good salad. I have not tried the deserts except ice cream (not recommended) but the waffles and fruit looks GREAT! Please give it a try and support a small, local all-vegan restaurant.
Pros: Prices are reasonable , Nice view of the River (Rio Tomebamba ) , Good variety
Cons: Ice cream

Disappointing experience - Edit
We went to this restaurant because it was all vegan with great reviews, but it was extremely underwhelming. We thought it was bland, simple. Over sauced and soggy. The staff were nice and it's a great idea for the restaurant, but for us it missed the mark.
Read moreA little pricey too for the quality.

Desserts not really good - Edit
We were really disappointed when visiting this place with all the good reviews.
Read moreThe brownie and carrot cake were okay, but nothing special. The ice cream taste was pretty bland and had lots of ice crystals like it was warmed up and frozen again a couple of times.
The hot chocolate and chai latte were the worst ones we ever had.
I cannot recommend this restaurant at all if you just want to have coffee and desserts.
However we didn’t try the main plates (and after our experience we won’t be coming back), so maybe those are better.
The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of one is because it’s fully vegan…
Pros: Fully vegan
Cons: Terrible chai latte and hot chocolate, Weird ice cream consistency

Delicious side dishes - Edit
We went with a bunch of the smaller dishes: the shawarma, the seitan wings, and the nachos.
Read moreThe shawarma was good as everyone says, but the experience of eating it could be improved. It is just a tortilla laid flat with a lot of stuff on top. It can't be closed or anything as tortillas normally would be, so the toppings would glide around the plate.
The wings were excellent and we went with half and half between the honey mustard and the BBQ sauce.
The nachos were also excellent with a generous amount of beans and guacamole on top. We asked for the picante version of the nachos which came with a small container of hot sauce. That sauce was very spicy, so don't just pour it all over as you would normally do other places where the sauce is weak.
Overall a highly recommended place with great options for mixing and matching smaller dishes.

Great! - Edit
Great restaurant in a scenic location. Visited twice and wish I could’ve tried more dishes. The menu can be a bit overwhelming because of the amount of options.
Read moreRatings:
Cevichocho - very light and fresh, could use more beans (7/10)
Falafel - does not taste like traditional falafel, but good in its own way (7/10)
Berry Smoothie - the chocolate in it does not compliment the berries in a positive way (4/10)
Lomito Saltado - love the consistency of the seitan and the flavour of the sauce and fries, the amount of onion is a bit overpowering though (8/10)
Shawarma - fantastic (9/10)

Great place with huge menu! - Edit
Loved this place. We got the “wings” and they were on point, as well as the nachos. The menu is huge with a great selection. I would not recommend the pizza though - toppings were good but the crust and sauce was not.

Cheap desserts - Edit
I had the "brownie" and icecream. The brownie was more a chocolate cake to be honest.
Read moreThere are 3 flavors for the icecream including chocolate and Oreo.
I've tried the Oreo that just tasted like chocolate.
The dessert was cheap though and the staff friendly.
Pros: A lot of vegan options , Inexpensive desserts, Friendly staff

100% vegan and nice - Edit
This vegan restaurant offers cozy outdoor seating (under aroof, with heaters of necessary). Staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu is available on English and Spanish.
Read moreWe had the Piqueto plate, a crunchy burger and the gourmet burger.
The plate was awesome, so delicious and fresh: plantain, fries, nachos served with salsa and guacamole.
The burger were good as well, only the crunchy burger could have had a bit more sauce on it.
Pros: 100% vegan, Nice seating

Great burger - Edit
Really good restaurant located directly at the riverside. They have an extensive menu which is completely vegan. They serve burger, vegan meatballs, pasta dishes and pizza as well as some desserts. We tried the cheese steak sandwich and a crusty burger which tasted great. We also tried the chocolate milkshake which was amazing!

Nice atmosphere, mediocre food - Edit
The location and atmosphere of the restaurant is great. Outdoor seating by a stream/river, indoor options available as well. The server we had only spoke Spanish.
Read moreThe food needs improvement. I ordered their ‘Potas Fratello’ (‘gluten free’ fries with toppings), and falafel. My friends ordered the vegan hot dog, burger, bbq wings, & burrito. The falafel came out first and it looked like a veg sausage cut into thirds and fried; we later find out that it was just the ‘hotdog’ cut into thirds. A very poor attempt at falafel; dry and greasy. The toppings included with the fries was refried beans, potato ‘cheese’, chickpeas, sautéed mushrooms, peppers & onions w/ a side salad. Sounds tasty right?
I wish I would have taken a picture of how minuscule the toppings were, it was so disappointing. There was the smallest drizzle of translucent ‘cheese’ (2-3 tbsp), 2 tbsp refried beans, and about 1/4 cup of peppers & onions, etc. with a giant serving of dry french fries.
The best part was dessert. The ice cream was delicious, and brownie was fairly tasty.
Pros: All vegan options
Cons: Greasy, dry, too salty, Not creative, too many french fries, Not enough toppings on certain dishes

Lots of plant based meat and nice garden area - Edit
