Disappointing - Edit
I stopped by for brunch a couple days ago after eyeing Frannie’s for months. I’ve been vegan for over ten years and know not to expect the best somewhere like Johnson City, but I was hoping for something average.
Read moreMy friend and I ordered biscuits & gravy and chik’n & waffles to share. Both came with “fruit salad.” The biscuits were obviously from a can and the gravy didn’t have any seasoning beyond a non-dairy milk taste. The “chik’n” was deep-fried breaded cauliflower and the waffle was so hard and overcooked we couldn’t get a fork through it. On top of all that, the fruit salad was canned fruit cocktail. In addition, the cucumber water they have sitting out looks like the cucumbers haven’t been changed in days. The total was close to $30 for the most mediocre meal I ever tried.
Needless to say, we didn’t finish the food, but paid and left to go elsewhere. I want to support local vegan spots, but this place was highly disappointing and overpriced for canned nothing.
Pros: Local
Cons: Canned products, No flavor

Adore this place! - Edit
Frannie is the best! And her food is awesome! I've tried almost everything on her menu and my favorites are the BBQ pulled jackfruit and meatloaf, when it's available. Her slaw is probably the best vegan slaw I've ever had! The desserts are also excellent.

A Gem! - Edit
We are so happy that we stopped at Frannie’s Vegan Restaurant on our way to Asheville. Frannie is kind, friendly, and helpful. I really enjoyed the Lobster Roll with Cowboy beans and green beans and we had the Pretzel Bites with mustard and cheese dips and the Black Bean Dip with Tortilla Chips for lunch the following day. We would love to visit again because there were many tempting choices on the menu. The prices were very reasonable.

I’d go back every day - Edit
I loved Frannie’s while I was in town to visit family, and went as many times as I could. The non-veg family I brought even loved it! The chicken sandwhich and meatloaf were sooo good and exactly what I was missing from my pre-veg days. The woman working there (presumably Frannie) was also very nice. What a diamond among an otherwise not super vegan friendly area!

We are from out of town and learned from Happy Cow about this vegan restaurant in a small Tennessee town. We both scraped our plates. Dessert cake was wonderful too.

Great Food and Friendly Proprietor - Edit
My wife and I were traveling and as is often the case we used our Happy Cow App to look for places that might have vegan options. Frannie’s looked intriguing and turned out to be a great stop. All the options are vegan, the atmosphere is welcoming and Frannie couldn’t have been nicer. We will stop again if we’re passing this way.

Frannies is the spot for vegans and non-vegans - Edit
This vegan spot has such a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The owner/operator is always super nice and very informative about vegan cuisine. Another perk is the fact that its not just salads, smoothies, and fruit bowls...but meals that look and taste "regular" (for a lack of better words). Burgers, lobster rolls, chicken wings, BBQ, all of which are vegan and plant-based. Frannies is a MUST and you should try it...vegan or not!!

Good food here - Edit
I got the Meaty Walnut Wrap for $12; it came with 2 sides. I thought the food was good and I would definitely return when in the area. There was a "fish" taco special for $10 that comes with one side. Most smoothies were $6. Dessert $2.

Not the best, but a solid vegan restaurant - Edit
I have tried multiple vegan restaurants in Tennessee, and I would rank Frannie’s as my least favorite (compared to the ones I’ve been in Nashville and Knoxville which are stellar). However, I still enjoyed the food here. I really liked the pretzels (although I couldn’t eat the cheese sauce) and the Owen’s Open Tacos. I think the restaurant could improve but it is nice to have an all vegan option in Johnson City. The owner has always been super friendly and informative which is a plus.

Should be called Cannies - Edit
Terrible. Got there 2 hours after opening on a Saturday and they were sold out of half of their menu, somehow...even though we were the only guests in the building. Go figure. My bf places his order and guess what they were out of what he wanted too, his mom ordered the pretzels and apparently she got the last order of those. I ordered the Owen’s Open Tacos and would you believe they were out of the slaw that is on top?? So, they said they’d put salsa and greens instead. Okay, no biggie. Still had a bit of hope that is place was worth the drive and all the reviews I’d seen weren’t lies. Lol! But, hold on to your boot straps it gets better, and the hope immediately disappeared when the food came out. The sides I got were sweet carrots and roasted street corn. I grew up poor, I know my way around a can of carrots and that is exactly what I got. Sweet Great Value Carrots. No flavor, no added anything, just some room temperature carrots dumped from a can onto the plate. The “roasted” street corn was actually canned corn with paprika that was microwaved. It was chewy. None of our food was hot or even warm even though we waited for over 20 minutes( I think they may have had trouble finding their can opener or something). My tacos were DISGUSTING, the corn tortillas were uncooked and rubbery and the cauliflower and chickpea mixture inside tasted like it was roasted last week. My bfs burger was on some kind of weird raw tortilla, even though the menu says a bun. His green beans were from a can and his potatoes were gross. I am all about supporting vegan businesses or restaurants that offer options for a long time vegan like myself, but this was just ridiculous. We paid almost $40 dollars for none of us to be full or even remotely satisfied. If canned veggies is what you serve, at least make the food cheaper, or give me the whole cans worth. This place is a disgrace.

Dissapointing - Edit
This place really cut corners. A side of green beans means green beans from a can heated up. A side of fruit means a partially peeled orange left on your plate. I ordered the lobster roll and it was simply some cut up hearts of palm doused in mayonnaise with seasoning and placed on a cheap hotdog bun. Nothing seafood like about it. I’m a long time vegan so I know what good plant-based eating is and I’ve had plant-based seafood made well and it actually tastes like seafood. The coslaw side was good, but other than that, this was a real disappointing experience. The portions were small and the food way overpriced. Please understand that this restaurant does not give vegan dining a good name.
