Not a good option for vegans

As an update, they no longer have a separate vegetarian menu. The vegan options were super simple adaptations of the regular menu and resulted in rather bland dishes. The saddest was the entree—farfalle pasta with plain tomato sauce they wanted to charge us $26 for but upon complaint still over charged us for at $13. It was what you would expect on a kids menu at a low end restaurant. We were super disappointed with how inflexible and uncreative the chef was at accommodating vegans. There were definitely better elements on the menu that could have been reworked into a more gourmet vegan meal but they were unwilling to use those ingredients in any way other than specified on the menu. This reflects a lack of skill in our opinion as serious chefs are ready to prepare quality food for any dietary restriction. Vegans, I’d definitely skip this place.

Great find!

I used Happy Cow to locate a restaurant with vegan options in Gloucester... and although there weren’t any reviews yet, I gave Franklin Cafe a chance. First- they brought over a big basket of delicious, fresh-baked vegan bread with white bean hummus... and then they also offer a decent sized vegetarian menu with a note at the bottom that most items can be made vegan upon request. I was feeling very basic, so I went with the veggie burger and the waitress automatically asked if I wanted the bun it came on or if I prefer the vegan bread. The fries were AMAZING and the cocktails were too. I will definitely eat here again if I find myself in the area!
