Vegan ice cream - Edit
Fountains Abbey offers 2 vegan ice creams at the small stalls near the house. They had a vegan gelato and vegan almond magnum!

Incredible Place - Edit
If you've never been to Fountains Abbey I would highly recommend a visit. What an incredible place. You can easily spend a day here.
Read moreFood wise, there are a number of tasty vegan options available, all clearly labelled. We ordered a coronation chickpea sandwich, which was freshly made and tasty and a raspberry flapjack that was moist and delicious. The soya latte was also very good. Our son also enjoyed a twister lolly that was vegan.
Staff are very friendly and vegan aware and there's a lovely outside seating area too. Expect National Trust prices though.

much improved - Edit
I hadn't been there for a few years so was pleasantly surprised to note the addition to the menu of vegan scones, which were delicious, and vegan spread, whereas previously there was nothing to eat for vegans. I should have, but to my shame didnt, check what there was apart from the pastries and cake.
Read moreIt's not cheap but then it is the National Trust! Both the cafe and the toilets are before the desk where you have to pay to go into the site.
(N.B. It isn't widely publicized, but English Heritage members get in free as well as NT members.)

Excellent for a pitstop - Edit
Stunning location with a breathtaking view of the lake. Plenty of outdoor seating.
Read moreStaff very knowledgable about Veganism and asked if I had any allergies or was it a preference to have non-dairy milk. They even wrote 'oat cap' on my coffee to avoid confusion. However I found it saddening to find out that they only sold food in disposable packaging that wasn't recyclable for the most part. Note, you can bring your own coffee flask and get a good deal...I think it was buy one get one free if you bring your own drinking flask.
2 non dairy milks, oat and soy. No sandwiches in the lakeside cafe but there is another cafe right when you enter the site on the main entrance which is meant to have better options and is a larger establishment. They had a few vegan options in the cafe located by the lake, including a cauliflower pasty, a vegan friendly fruit scone, a vegan friendly flapjack, and a cookie. The ice cream available in the freezer includes the likes of a vegan classic magnum and a vegan raspberry magnum.
I didn't get a chance to try all of the vegan options or look at all of the prices but the cookie was £2, you wouldn't want to come all of the time as it's pricey. All in all the cafe is worth a visit and has enough vegan options to tide you over.
Pros: Stunning views , Cake selection
Cons: No vegan sandwiches in lake cafe

Surprising vegan options - Edit
Pleasantly surprised at the range of food and drinks available for vegans here. The Abbey and water gardens were amazing and to find so many choices for lunch was a great bonus!
