So many vegan options!

Wide selection of options, including vegan dishes that were varied, well-labeled, and included a protein source. The food was great, and it had a nice vibe, although the ordering via a QR code at the table wasn't our favorite.

Pros: Many vegan options including protein, Delicious vegan options, Enjoyable atmosphere

Cons: QR code based ordering

Best Vegan Soul food In Grand Rapids

Forty Acres Soul Kitchen is the best soul food in Grand Rapids; however, it also does not have that much competition.

First off, Forty Acres should be commended for their wide menu of vegan items that are all clearly labeled on their menu. They have vegan versions of all the classic soul food staples like mac and cheese, fried green tomatoes, and gumbo. Which makes it so painful to say that it all tastes so bland.

I really want to like Forty Acres. I have been many times and have tried new dishes every time I go, and it just hurts that it feels like it could taste so much better than it does. I know it is possible. It tastes like they are 3/4 of the way there. I have been to many vegan soul food restaurants in the south that go hard while keeping to plant-based ingredients. Yet, Forty Acres just does not seem to be able to reach those heights yet.

I want Forty Acres to succeed. They seem like they want to fill a hole that is not really being filled in Grand Rapids. So, I recommend you try them out. Build your own opinion. But unfortunately, Forty Acres is not my top choice for vegan food in Grand Rapids.

Pros: Many Vegan Options, Black owned, Cognac bar

Cons: Bland food

Good, not great.

Phone ordering via QR code diminishes the dine-in experience. They were out of several vegan items when we were there, and we got wrong things delivered to our table twice.

Food was good, but not amazing.

Both my wife and I had stomach issues after our dinner. We suspect we got dairy in our "vegan" Mac and cheese.

Amazing 5 stars.

This place has a larger vegan menu than some actual vegan restaurants and it was amazing! Would recommend stopping in if you are craving some authentic vegan soul food.

5 Star Experience!

I can't make this review 5 stars, but every time I order from here the food is delicious and the staff are friendly. The fried cauliflower is my favorite.

Takes me back!

The thing I miss most about living in the south is the food, and this restaurant brought me back. The vegan mac and cheese was delicious, and the mushroom grits were full of flavor. I'll be back to try the appetizers next time!

Pros: Large vegan section, Nice interior

Cons: Street parking

Great vegan comfort food!

I was looking for a new place to try on Happy Cow and came across this place. I’m so glad I did! We shared the Buffalo Cauliflower wrap and the vegan platter. Both were delicious! The vegan platter comes with breaded tempeh, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas, collard greens, and Mac and cheese. It was all so good, I’ll definitely be going back!

Pros: Several vegan options, Delicious comfort food, Serves alcohol too

Cons: A little pricey

This place deserves 10 stars

Top 2 food spots I have ever had in 3 years of being a vegan. The vibe with Teddy Pendergrass-type jams on a quality sound system and amazing staff. This place is epic!

Pros: Flavor, clean, vibe! SOLID VEGAN OPTIONS!!

Cons: Zero...

Some of the best in town!!

This place has some seriously delicious vegan dishes!!! Their gumbo is unbelievable! The buffalo cauliflower was perfect. They have plenty of vegan sides and entrees to choose from. The staff is extremely friendly, and welcoming. A wonderful environment for a fancy dinner or a casual lunch. I didn't know about this place a month ago and now I've been there three times.

Pros: Delicious food, Wonderful staff, Cool environment

Cons: ??, ???????, The gazpacho was so-so

Awesome Vegan Options

Such great choices. We ordered the Forty Rolls, Buffalo Caul Wrap, and Vegan Platter (with mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas, collard greens, and fried tempeh). All was delicious!! They also have vegan grits that sound amazing.

Pros: Nice outdoor seating , Great staff

Conscious soul food

This is my favorite vegan friendly restaurant in all of Grand Rapids. The staff is awesome and very accommodating. The food is great and the atmosphere makes you feel like your in scene from Love Jones. All it needs is a small stage for impromptu poetry. Ha!

Pros: Vegan options, Atmosphere and music, Service
