Great potential, but needs work - Edit

The first thing you have to be aware of is that this place is not a storefront. It's a small commercially-oriented bakery that also sells to the public.

It's in a semi-industrial location at Coopers Plains, and there's no flash entrance or food display.

Also, be aware that opening times are currently from 4-8pm, so if you get there at 10am you'll wonder what's going on.

Vic runs the show with the help of Dave. Both of them were very friendly.

Foodmill concentrates on making savoury products such as pies and sausage rolls, but if you look at their Facebook page you'll see all kinds of sweet things as well such as baked donuts and tarts.

Not having made contact beforehand, when i went they only had savoury things there: pies, sausage rolls and hound dogs.

These aren't ready to eat, but ready to bake. So the idea is you collect what you want, keep it in the freezer at home, then make it when you're ready.

I took some pies, a sausage roll, and a hound dog.

The pastry for all of them - pies, sausage roll and hound dog - was good.

However the fillings ranged from a little unusual to average. The plain mince pie i had, for instance, was average. There’s nothing that made me go, “Oh, wow, that was excellent!"

It’s great to have a vegan bakery making savoury things - as well as sweet things. I’m giving them 3 stars based on what i tried, but this could develop to 4 or 5.

As it stands at the moment, i can’t imagine the broader (nonveg) public really rating their pies and rolls above what they can currently get.

I think Foodmill are committed to improvement, though, and i look forward to trying more of their products in time.

Pros: Friendly, Dedicated vegan bakery

Cons: No storefront, Hidden in semi-industria, Savoury fillings need improvement

Amazing! - Edit

Amazing pies ($4.50), sausage rolls, cupcakes, tarts ect. All vegan. You buy from their commercial kitchen. Stock up and freeze them.
