Cute place, good food, friendly people!

I was in the area seeking some vegan desserts and found this little gem! The atmosphere is amazing- it was pretty busy for a late hour and everyone was really friendly. Had some great baked goods and a root beer float. Will definitely be back for a full meal!

Good breakfast

We were in the area, saw that this place is now vegan, and decided to try their breakfast.
I had the tofu ranchero and my partner had Bob's breakfast. Food was good! We also shared a fresh and good fruit cup.
Note: the coffee was pretty bad.
Service was excellent, our waitress was really nice.

Meals made with intention

There's a reason why this restaurant has been around for decades. The mission of offering no-harmed meals to customers in a loving and intentional way is clear. Our favorite go-to dishes are the enchiladas and the mac & cheese. One of our fave places!

Pros: Delicious vegan options, Cozy space

Real Veg History

Follow Your Heart is a historical gem that keeps evolving with the movement. I always get the Reuben with homemade veg pickles when I go and make sure to stop in the market to bring home the huge selection of vegan cheeses, dressings, and art pieces. The ladies in the next table over were eating gigantic baked potatoes with luscious vegan cheese sauce. Someone else had a huge wedge of vegan corn bread. This time we shared the beet salad with vegan feta and my daughter ordered a vegan hot dog off the children's' menu (something we never get to do because when is there anything vegan on a children's menu?). I keep scarfing before I remember to take a picture, so here are the cupcakes we brought home.

Pros: History, Delicious, Just Go There!

Between the market and the old school 70s style cafe, you can find just about anything vegan you desire. The menu is extensive including a weekend brunch. Save room for dessert!

Pros: Menu size, Desserts, Ambiance

Nice old school spot

As a fan of Follow Your Heart products I was excited to stop there. Market is cool. All vegan store. Little restaurant inside the market was good. Here’s a little tip for you. If you were planning on ordering sandwiches for takeout consider the grab and go section in the market.

Pros: Vegan store, Cute restaurant

I love this place so much!

Whenever I come to Los Angeles, I always visit this restaurant. And I’ve been visiting since I became a vegan in 1995. It never disappoints. I absolutely loved the club sandwich with avocado, my partner had the banh mi. We both also enjoyed their coleslaw. this will forever be one of my favorites… plus the restaurant has been completely vegan for over a year and the service is phenomenal.

great combo!

Great place!! So happy that the restaurant finally went fully vegan! The store has items not always available in other (non-online) stores. Been going here for about 20 years and the restaurant has tasty options; some of my favorites are the Reuben, club, chicken sandwich, eggy sandwich, waffles, quesadilla, and scramble). Oh and don't forget the chocolate cake!! The display case had many gf options and the cupcakes are adorable!!

A Vegan Oasis Menu

FYH is a historical gem in the valley for delicious vegan eats and array of unique health food products. I’ve had many memorable meals over the years and FYH has always been consistent with their delicious food offerings and great friendly service. You can’t go wrong with any item on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner and you won’t be disappointed with the variety of options. If you can’t decide, check out some of my photos as most are a selection of my favorite items. Make sure to check out the cool little gift shop and roam the aisles for hard to find treats and health food items. Just be aware that they do carry items in the aisles that are not vegan.
I would encourage having a chat with the manager if you want to question them about that.

Pros: Menu is Vegan w/ new updated items!, Great market selection , Gift shop

Cons: Some items in the aisles are not vegan.

Food is vegan. The place is not.

The ready made meals in the fridge are great! Very convenient, many choices. Sandwiches, sides, microwave entrees, and so far everything has been delicious.
However, go to the gift shop, and you will find animal products. Wool is not vegan.

Pros: Lots of vegan food options

Cons: Wool products at gift shop.

Sadly some of their supplements and products too. 🫤

I’ve always enjoyed coming to FYH. I enjoy the vibe and having the market is a huge plus. They had a slight menu revamp so check it out if you haven’t gone there in a while.

Pros: Connected to grocery store, Usually plenty of parking

Cons: Seems like they are understaffed

Horrible service

The food is good but OMG is the service awful. There were only 2 tables in the cafe when we sat down but it took 30 minutes for them to take our order. We waited another hour for the food to come. We saw the food just sitting on the counter for at least ten minutes with no one brining it to our table. Once we got the food it was cold. Majority of the waitstaff stood around doing nothing while one waiter ran around. This is not the first time we had bad service here but it was by far the worst.

After almost 2 hours we finally got all our food but the quality was far under par. In true Follow Your Heart spirit they at least comped our meal.

Pros: All vegan

Sad to note food is slipping again

This place has such a history of supporting the cause and a great market section. It is hard to knock it back to only 4 stars but my food was only OK. I had a tofu enchinlada, which was very good but the rice was a bit dry and the beans were bland. Sour cream was amazing. I had to ask to make sure it was vegan! My family, not vegans, all had FYH Burgers . They all enjoyed the burgers but were not amazed. I think they need to up their game a bit in 2021. There is alot more competition now.
UPDATED: We went back the next day for breakfast, which they are currently only doing on weekends. The old FYH quality was back so I added the star I refused to give earlier. Great place to start the day.

I have been coming here since the 80's so it was with a heavy heart that I knocked them down to 4 stars again. The cafe food really slipped backwards. I used to love this place and always come when in LA because it is near home but the meals are really hit and miss, with more slight misses. Market is still great.

Diner style decor with pizza ovens

The year was 2000. I ordered pizza with vegan cheese and vegan chocolate cake for dessert. Both were delicious, and a sizable portion. There was also a small grocery store at the entrance. The server suggested the dessert, which I would suppose is rare nowadays.

Vegan Fried Chick’n & Waffles

I’ve been wanting to check this place out since it’s obviously known for their vegan products. They had so many selections that I couldn’t decide. Luckily, the server suggested the vegan fried chick’n & waffles which was not added to the brunch menu just yet. I’m glad she recommended it because it was amazing and everything I wanted all in one. I also order their nacho fries which were fire too!

Pros: Everything is vegan, You can also shop their market after eating, Was recently turned all vegan

Amazing experience

I spent about an hour in here just browsing all the amazing products.. lots of amazing supplements! Although I found some collagen that had ‘bovine collagen’ in it 😵‍💫 that was a little alarming… but I also appreciate all the artsy / crafty things sold here too! And the cafe! There were so many products to choose from in this store.

Vintage Vegan

I used to eat here many years ago, and remembered to go back now that I’m visiting the area and I’m actually vegan now. They have great menu with many different types of food. I ordered the “egg”wich sandwich and some sweet potato fries. Very satisfying and filling

Everything Vegan!

Came in for a quick dinner and was left wanting to try more. Had the Mac and cheese (cashew based which is always better) dish and the yellow submarine fresh pressed juice (delightful). Carried out a lavender vanilla cupcake, because I’m obsessed with lavender, and I was amazed how the cream tasted like sweet lavender but not potent like you were tasting Potpourri. Definitely check out this place, for a meal, groceries, or just to roam the aisles.

Pros: Vegan loaded , Kind staff , Easy parking

Not vegan

They sell dairy options, this should not be labeled as vegan on HappyCow. I refuse to support animal suffering.

Cons: Not vegan, Dairy , Baby cows losing their mother

Points +114

Non vegan options

Why would a vegan company offer non vegan dairy options? This makes no sense! Also selling non vegan pet food? Aka dead animals at a vegan store? Wth 🤦🏻‍♀️ why contribute to animal suffering then label yourself vegan?

Cons: Non vegan options, Dead animals, Baby cow torture
