Excellent breakfast! - Edit
I recent visited the Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe for breakfast, and it was simply delicious. My order wasn't anything over the top - Talkeetna Toast (avocado toast with tomato, micro greens, and seeds on freshly baked bread) - but it was PHENOMENAL. The fresh ingredients, especially the homemade bread, sent this simple breakfast completely over the edge. We spent about 10 days in Alaska, and this was by far one of my favorite meals... A true testimony to the impact of "from-scratch" food and fresh ingredients.

Great cozy spot with locally grown organic ingredients - Edit
We were pleasantly surprised with our meal at Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe.
Read moreOur dishes had quality ingredients and were filling.
We ordered the "not a breakfast burrito"- tortilla with brown rice, black beans, green chilis, onion, garlic, corn & kale and the "Trust me, I'm vegan- homemade hummus with whatever veggies they have on homemade bread. Both excellent choices
The menu items remind us of a good food co-op. Homemade bread and baked goods.
Pros: great homemade ingredients

Vegan baked goods and breakfast options - Edit
Very cute location that has a vegan breakfast burrito, toast and bagel options, and some granola. They also have vegan lunch sandwiches and we picked up some macaroons and a rhubarb bar that were the vegan baked goods of the day.
Read moreIt seems like they do pizzas on Friday and Saturday evenings, unclear if any can be made vegan.
Food is good. Skip the coffee though.

Delicious delight on the way thur Talkeetna. Vegan Pastries were good. Talkeetna Toast nothing fancy though they use fresh home made bread, avocado and tomatoes sprinkled with sunflower seeds. Great friendly environment. Peace.

Was pleasantly surprised! - Edit
I thought this place sounded cute and appealing, but I was still pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! I got the Talkeetna toast... avocado, tomato, sea salt, sunflower seeds, and sprouts on toast... such simple ingredients but sooooo delicious! I’m inspired to mimic it at home, I liked it that much. I got a side of kale chips, which I wasn’t too impressed with but weren’t terrible. They just tasted kinda burnt to me and weren’t very flavorful. They had vegan blueberry rhubarb squares that looked amazing, but I resisted due to already indulging a lot while on vacation. Oh, and kudos to them for naming one sandwich “trust me, I’m vegan”.

Amazing pizza! - Edit
This place has a rotating menu, so I sent an email prior to visiting to see what vegan options they might have. I received a very enthusiastic reply back with what they might have that weekend. They had home made hummus, cuban black bean soup, veggie sandwich, and wood fired pizza starting at 4.
Read moreWe arrived a little too early for pizza, but their panini press was down so we decided to wait it out and I'm glad we did. Their wood fired pizza is amazing! They didn't have any vegan cheese, but I was plenty satisfied with the mediterranean I ordered. Crust was thin and crispy and the toppings were all fresh. They said that they typically have vegan pastries, however sadly this time they didn't. They did have a coconut red current vegan ice cream, but we were too stuffed to try it.
We'll definitely come back next time we're in Talkeetna.

Excellent Bakery - Edit
While in Talkeetna we stopped in and found some great Vegan baked goods. Everything was excellent. In fact, we went out of our way coming back from Denali to get more take home goodies to bring back home. Be sure to look for the Vegan labels.

Yummy baked goods! Sour dough bread amazing! - Edit
We spent the night in Talkeetna on our way from Denali to Seward. We read about this restaurant while on our cruise. This was a great find. The cafe is a bit hidden on the Talkeetna spur. The decor is Alaska new-age quirky. The menu had many vegetarian options, a few (but not many) vegan options. The food was great. Their baked goods were outstanding with some surprises (didn't expect to find ruglach in Alaska!) They had several vegan bakery options which was great but more limited vegan lunch options. We took a loaf of sour dough bread to go to make sandwiches for our hiking.

Pros: Yummy baked goods, Many vegan baked goods, Not many veggie options in Talkeetna
Cons: Limited vegan lunch options, Many items were high-fat/caloric
