Disappointing

While there is a seperate vegetarian menu and vegan options are marked, I found it quite underwhelming. Tempura is not vegan, a anything fried is fried in the same oil they use for meat (nice that they specify that)

I tried the currry udon, which was just water with a hint of curry ans the noodles, with a few tiny bits of unidentifiable veggies. Not very tasty or filling. Also, all my non vegan friends had some sort of side dish to accompany their meal, nothing for the vegan option. I had to eat a protein bar I brought with me afterwards.

I appreciate sitting inside and getting away from the food smells of the street venders.

My favourite place in Japan so far

Not fully vegan, but if this app would let me I would give it 5 stars. Hoooolly moly, absolutely loved this place! I got the vegan curry, and it was so good I went back a second time and got it again the udon noodles w/ dipping sauce. One of the oldest restaurants on the island, very authentic feel.

Old restaurant to eat something

It's one of the oldest restaurants in Miyajima and has some vegan dishes to get you through the day. The tempura was very good.

Improved vegan compliance and menu clarity

Tachibana is one of the oldest restaurants on Miyajima's busy Omotesando shopping street - I believe it's been running for about 80 years!

As others have mentioned, they have a separate vegetarian menu that includes noodle dishes, tempura, curry, and animal-free soup. Recently, they switched to 100% egg-free tempura flour and started using vegan sugar. The soba noodles still contain some egg, and the tempura is fried in the same oil as some animal products.

This, however, is all clearly written on their redesigned vegetarian menu.

Nice little restaurant in Miyajima with veg options

There's a waitlist by the entrance where you put your name down and your table preference (either on tatami, regular table, or whichever) so you get an idea as to how long you might be waiting. This wasn't too bad for us as we got to grab some photo-printing omiyage next door to the right(I didn't catch the store name) where you could send pics to be printed on wooden paddles.

There's an extensive list of dishes for all, and a separate vegetarian menu. I got the veg tempura and kelp soup with seaweed (I asked to make sure there was no fish in the broth). We also got the red bean soup with shirataki. They were all delicious!. Once you order, the food comes quite quickly.

Also, they have a toilet within the restaurant which is quite convenient especially if you go to Miyajima on an extremely busy day like we did.

Pros: Delicious food! Veg menu available , Quick service after ordering

Cons: You might need to wait to get a table

Great experience

We had a great experience. The food was good and inexpensive. I paid 1150 yens for a vegetable tempura donburi with soup and edamames. They have a lot of veggieterian options and some vegan. The menu is super clear and they understand what being vegetarian means. I will definitely come back !

Pros: Good food , Good price , Many veggie options

Cons: A lot of loud people inside

Separate vege menu

The last page of the menu is the vegetarian and vegan options. Unfortunately the tempura contains egg (the menu is clear on that), so that’s a no go. We just had drinks and fries, nice spot for a snack. #Veganuary

Pros: Vege options marked , Good drink selection

Cons: Limited vegan options

Delicious noodles and a great price

I visited with my family and ordered three different dishes. Curry udon, soba in hot kelp soup and seaweed udon in a soup.

They all had a great taste at a very affordable price point. Personally thought the seaweed udon was the best, It was a simple yet delicious meal that filled me up. The broth was really well-flavoured and a great pairing with the chewy udon noodles.

I made sure to double-check about how they flavoured the broths, and the server confirmed that none of the vegetarian dishes are made with fish stock which was great to hear!

Yummy place with great fries

The udon noodles were good. I was surprised by the great edamame and fries. A good choice when in Miyajima. I have attached a picture of the veggie options that they offer (it’s at the back of their menu)

Superb tempura

I got the hot kelp soba and the tempura over rice. Both were very very good. I like the tempura so much that I ordered it again by itself.

Nice food but a weird smell?

I would have given this place the full 4 stars if it weren't for a really weird smell in the restaurant.

Having said that, there was a one page vegetarian menu in English that specified which foods were not vegan.

I got curry udon and it was very nice. I don't think theres anywhere else on the island that has a clear English vegetarian menu so I'd definitely recommend this place, despite the smell

Pros: Clearly marked vegan options, Nice food with big portions

Cons: Strange smell

Traditional Japanese food with vegan options

Nice restaurant near the beginning of the main shopping street on the island. Look for the painting of a deer out front (shown in pictures)

We found this to seem quite special and traditional, with a style that most restaurants with vegan options don't have as they are generally quite modern. It was nice to take out shoes off and sit down for some Udom noodles.

We had the curry Udon and the cold udon with dipping sauce, along with some umeshu and sake to drink.

Everything was delicious and unique, especially the curry Udon which I highly recommend. The cold udon was delicious but not the most flavourful, especially alongside the curry Udon, but I still think worthy of a try for something different.

Menu states that all tempura is not vegan due to egg, so vegans avoid this.

Fantastic noodle soup

You’ll need the Japanese name because there’s no English sign. On a busy shopping street not far from the pier. The hot kelp soba noodle soup was delicious and just what I needed after 20km of trail running.

Pros: The dish I had was really tasty, Traditional style place, Quirky artwork

Cons: 95% of the food here is not vegan
