Excellent option in Pittsfield, MA

CLOSING as of December 31st.

Flavours is aptly named, as it is an oasis of flavor in an otherwise bland Pittsfield restaurant scene as far as vegans and vegetarians are concerned. The menu lists several vegan options, and also lists dishes where fish is used in the sauce. A nice bonus is the availability of vegan miso soup, as most restaurants use bonito in their recipe. There are lots of gluten-free options as well. We went for dinner on a Wednesday evening, and the restaurant was about half-full. One waitress capably handled them in a very efficient and friendly manner. Entree portions were very generous, with enough leftovers for another meal at home. Spice levels were just as requested, where a 7 means a 7, and not a 10! I ordered the crispy eggplant with ginger and mushrooms, and the eggplant was not too oily, and the ginger really brought out the flavor in the dish. My girlfriend had the vegetable curry with tofu, and her only criticism was that the hot chili peppers should have been diced into smaller pieces. The owner came over to several tables to check on things, as he did for us, and seemed genuinely concerned about our dining experience. Prices are in line with the quality and quantity of food. Our party of three totaled at just under $90, before tip, and we ordered a vegetarian sampler plate, a large Asian salad, three entrees, one dessert, and two cups of tea. This is not a restaurant where you want to rush through your meal. If time pressure is a concern, my suggestion would be to order take out ahead of time.

Lives up to the raves!

My boyfriend and I shared the veggie appetizer assortment and a tofu dish. The apps were all fried, so yummy! The main dish was healthier, with lovely fresh veggies and subtle flavors. We will definitely be putting this one in the rotation!

Pros: Can make a vegan version of almost any dish, Friendly staff, Fresh, fresh food

Cons: A bit pricey

disappointing

We went to this restaurant on a Saturday after attending a performance at Tanglewood. Next time we'll pack our own meal to take along. First of all, we were charged cover for a band that never actually played any songs during the hour wait for the food. They made a lot of noise "tuning up" and setting up, making conversation nearly impossible. The food was very greasy and salty. I hate to waste food but couldn't finish this.

Cons: greasy, salty, cover charge
