Amazing food for amazing prices - Edit
What a lovely discovery this was for our lunch one day. It's on the basement floor of the beautiful Buddhist temple opposite Maxwell food centre, and the people here are so warm and friendly. We felt very welcomed and nurtured here! The serving sizes are HUGE! You order from a little ATM machine and the set meal comes with 3x choices ($3) - we didn't know this until we received our plate because we ordered the set plus 1 additional dish each. So 4x choices each ($4). The people serving are very friendly and accommodating and all speak English and you pick and choose which item you would like with your rice - all of the ingredients tasted freshly cooked and well seasoned. We enjoyed our meal very much and will definitely be back to try their other options. Highly recommend.

Caring food - Edit
This is basic chinese veggie food. Take change for donation. I gave $4 for a plate of red rice, pak choi, cauliflower and some sort of mock meat. No one really speaks English who serves, so be prepared to point. I could have had noodles and various other veggie offerings. The place supports an organisation called Metta which gives jobs to disadvantaged people.

Kind people and kind food - Edit
So glad to have found this via Happy Cow! It is a hidden gem for sure. It's free, buy they suggest you give $3 SGD for a donation. Make sure you have the exact change for this. I didn't, so I kept asking people in line for change for a $10, and then a nice man just paid for my meal. It was really sweet, and we sat together and shared a nice conversation.

Extend the zenitude to your meal - Edit
After enjoying a visit to Chinatown and to the Buddha's tooth relic temple, having a lunch at the cafeteria in the basement is very relaxing. The room is quiet (especially the one opposite to the kitchen).

Lots of seating, aircon and cheap. - Edit
If you don't look carefully, you might miss it. The canteen is at the basement of the popular tourist attraction, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. There are daily specials (as with many other stalls in Singapore) and mixed rice dishes. $3 for the daily specials. Cheap considering its in the city.
