Great breakfast - biscuits and gravy were great along with the French toast. Kid loved the classic cheese burger. Would recommend. Owner mentioned they are closing permanently in a few days on 8/11/2024

UPDATE: Just heard that they're closing their doors on August 11th due to their location (I love it, but it's inaccessible to many)! Go while you can!

Cool Find - Edit
I tried the Cheese Curds, Country Fried Plate, and Breakfast Burger.
Read moreHonestly the cheese curds were surprisingly great. They were a tad salty, but the cashew cheese inside was amazing.
Overall it was good. They use Beyond patties (they do also have a Sun Patty) which have a distinct taste. The side salad with ranch was refreshing and the gravy and tator tots were good. I wasn't a huge fan of the Texas toast or Moon eggs. The moon eggs didn't have a ton of flavor but I enjoyed the texture quite a bit.
I plan to come again and support the business.
I want to try the sun patty next time.

Great Vegan Diner - Edit
Really friendly staff, cool diner atmosphere, a lot of outdoor seating. I believe this is the same owner as Burrowing Owl but this a very different (but equally good) menu. They serve breakfast and lunch all day which is great. Went with my wife and son (both vegan) and my non-vegan daughter and it was a hit with all four of us. The highlights were the cheese curds and cheese cake but everything was also very good.

Full Diner Experience - Edit
Stopped here for dinner and returned for breakfast the next morning while stopping for an overnight in Colorado Springs. Got the cheese curds, patty melt with artichoke patty w/ tots, and cheesecake. Breakfast was french toast and a breakfast sammy (with a side of their house-made hot sauce). Everything was awesome and recommended! Great coffee too! I will definitely return when passing through.

Cute diner - Edit
We took our family here for lunch. As usual, the diner atmosphere is super cute, and the service is great. We come when we visit Colorado and usually love it. Today, we had a mix of great and ok food. The 80"s burger was super salty, and there was a strange spice in the pancakes. The artichoke dip and the poutine were fabulous. My brother loved the stuffed French toast. I tried it, and it was great. Having this adorable vegan diner in the beautiful mountains is such a treat each time we visit.

Cute little diner in a beautiful location - Edit
We had dinner at this place once. It is located at the based of pike's peak highway. The place is surrounded by trees and we could see mountains from our table. So, it is a really nice setting.
Read moreThe food was quite good. Their menu choices are a little limited. For bread the only option they had was texas toast. They didn't have regular bread. The only other choice was gluten free bread which was not bad.
Overall, I enjoyed going there and would go back there .. mainly for the setting.

Highly recommend if you are anywhere near Colorado Springs or manitou. Small local diner vibe with an eclectic interior design. Menu is extensive and everything was delicious. Love being able to get diner coffee and refills with non dairy milk.

Great food, cute diner - Edit
We loved this place. We got french toast, soup, sandwich and a wrap, all of it was vegan. The staff was also really friendly. We'd definitely go again. The prices were not insane, although it wasn't cheap either. For two people ordering french toast, one sandwich, and a wrap it cost us about $50 total.

Vegan Mountain Perfection - Edit
Fern's is an absolute gem tucked away in the mountains outside Manitou Springs. The breathtaking mountain scenery alone is worth the visit, but the food and atmosphere take it to another level. With a full menu and decent canned beer/cocktail/NA offerings, including gluten-free options, Fern's caters to diverse tastes.
Read moreWhat truly sets Fern's apart is their innovative approach to vegan cuisine. My husband, a vegan for five years, was ecstatic to find a burger served with an egg on it, something he had long missed. It's a testament to Fern's dedication to offering unique and satisfying vegan options.
We only wish we lived closer, as we would frequent this place often. Fern's, you've won our hearts with your delicious food and stunning surroundings. We love you, Fern's! 🌱❤️

a fern-tastic, classic american roadside diner - Edit
fern's is this cute little roadside shack, basically. there is one row of booths inside with a bar counter as well, and the rest of the building is the kitchen and a sweetly decorated bathroom (they made an aquarium in the soap dispenser!😄)
Read morethey also have a really cute outdoor area, a fenced in garden overlooking the mountains with a hodge podge of outdoor and office furniture to choose from to sit in!
so so delicious, and such an extensive menu! we came twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch! for lunch, both my husband and i had burgers and a rootbeer float, and for breakfast we both had different skillets; so different, but SO GOOD.
all the food is fresh and tasty, the service is so awesome and friendly and the atmosphere is just the most perfect hole in the wall diner shack in a mountain town! best diner food i've had in a LONG time

Right at the entrance to the pikes peak highway, this is the perfect place to stop before you head up the mountain, or right after!
Read moreThe patio area is well shaded under trees and remarkably spacious! It was 90°F when we ate there but the shade and light breeze made it perfect for outdoor dining. Waitstaff was super friendly and most importantly, the food was banging!
We had the Chickpea salad wrap, the Dulce du leche pancakes and the short stack pancakes, and all three were divine!
Pros: Super tasty food, Affordable, Great garden dining experience
Cons: A bit off the beaten path
