The bland effect

This establishment is in a prime location in a city (Southend-on-Sea City) that has both college and university students by the skip load. Vegetarianism and Veganism is spreading like Covid and to have such a poor show on this front is an opportunity missed.

I ordered the vegan burger that came with chips. When I eventually received it, a half hour later (only a few people in the place) I was not impressed with the quality, taste or price. From a previous visit I stayed away from the teas and coffees as they are expensive and really, really poor.

As I tucked into the burger I felt that it lacked any flavour whatsoever and totally uninspiring. If this is an American Diner experience then something has gone awry. No pickles or sauces in the burger, just a bland patty, a slithering of onion and limp lettuce. As a vegan of 30 years this is in my top 3 worst vegan/veggie burgers. The owners should consult vegan groups as to good burgers and do a bit of taste research instead of let's get the cheapest burger we can.

The chips were obviously from frozen and totally boring and no seasoning. The type of chips that Iceland would do for £1 for a 50kg bag. I had to smother my food in BBQ sauce to try and revive an essence of meal. However I am afraid to say it failed and the sauce (free on the side) was the best part of the meal.

The diet coke was expensive but it was better than their coffee.

On a good note,hence 2 stars they cleaned the tables quickly.

Cons: Bland, Boring, Soya milk in cartons
