Farmers Natural Food Supermarket

This store is nowhere as large as major supermarkets in Kyoto, but it definitely outshines the others when it comes to organic products. The produce area has a nice variety of veggies and everything is beautiful and very fresh. Farmer's also carries organic shelf foods, household products and personal care items and also has a bakery area. This is the only place I've been able to find organic soy milk in Kyoto. I paid 348 yen for 1000ml (a little over a US quart) which I thought was a fair price. Farmer's is easy to find: It's on Marutamachi St. which is the street on the south side of the Imperial Palace, and just east of Kawaramachi St.

Location: On Marutamachi -dori, east of Kawaramachi-dori . near bridge , with a sign "Farmers" in English.

Food: Farmers sells fresh fruits, vegetables , bread and other baked goods, deli portions of tofu , veggies and non-veg take out items , soy products, noodles, rice, seasonings, snack food, and imported Western items like quinoa, cinnamon, cumin, oatmeal. (A fully stocked specialty market with a wide range of imports ---jams, grains like barley and oatmeal,--and freshly baked breads , fresh herbs is Meidi-ya, on Sanjo-dori, near Kiyamachi, near the entrance to the Sanjo covered arcade.)

The friendly staff tried to answer all our questions about the items. (We were looking for unsweetened soy milk, for instance. )
