Great vegan options in Amritsar - Edit
Great place for good vegan options in Amritsar where despite the abundance of vegetarian places, labelled vegan options are rare. Everything we ate was delicious, and good to see vegan desserts on the menu too. It definitely is not a budget option, but if you are seeking reassurance that your food is definitely vegan this is a good bet.
Read moreAfter numerous visits to this and the Chandigarh branch I messaged FabCafe to ask why the rice is not vegan - and cannot be made vegan - and was disappointed that they did not respond. I feel that this lack of customer care suggests they are perhaps a more health orientated rather than ethical concern. This would stop me visiting branches in areas such as Delhi, where vegan options are far easier to come by.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Clear understanding of vegan food, Nice ambience
Cons: Serves meat, Rice isn’t vegan???

Menu with 20+ vegan-friendly options labelled! - Edit
Although Amritsar has many veggie restaurants, especially around the Golden Temple where non-veg is strictly forbidden, we did not find any that labelled vegan-friendly items on their menu, which results in a lot of questions and requires a significant level of trust.
Read moreFabCafe’s branch in Amritsar only opened in July 2019. It’s about a 40 minute walk from the Golden Temple or 15 minutes in an auto-rickshaw, above the shop FabIndia, and not far from Amritsar’s shopping malls and cinemas.
On our visit, we started with Jhalmuri Salad (puffed quinoa, makhana, peanuts, onion, tomatoes, coriander & mix greens citrus dressing), then moved on to mains of Khum Mattar Curry (mushrooms and peas in a brown cashew nut curry - our favourite dish), Tamatar Pappu (dal cooked with coconut oil, tomatoes and South Indian herbs), and vegan chapatis, and we rounded up with a coconut caramel ice cream and an iced vegan coffee, using their in-house almond milk (delicious!).
It’s more expensive than many of the veggie places in town, but I found it to be worthwhile, considering the quality of food and service, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant.
Pros: More than 20 vegan-friendly items on menu!, Relaxing atmosphere and great decor., Professional and attentive service.
Cons: Not fully vegan or veggie., Not a budget option.
