Nice food very expensive - Edit
Been here a few times, found a lot of choice for food. Food really nice and tasty although I feel they think of Glastonbury as a tourist trap therefore the prices are very expensive for what you get.

Delicious sandwich options but definitely overpriced... I'm talking £8 for a BLT. The staff are pretty unfriendly and whatever you do don't try the red velvet cake. Awful!!! Nice setting though.

Expensive vegan restaurant with buffet by weight and menu options. Buffet by weight very expensive as is the soup at £7 and you have to pay for bread extra.

Nice but not cheap - Edit
I guess you'll always pay more, it's in Glastonbury, it's organic, it's vegan so that's always going to bump the price up. The buffet was very nice though. Plenty of choice, hot and tasty. We were happy overall and will come again.

Disappointing - Edit
Super disappointing especially considering the price. We ordered the Shepherds Pie and a Margherita pizza. Both meals were very, very bland and definitely not worth the £13 we paid for each. The pizza had a very small amount of cashew cheese on it - but the cheese itself was nice.
Read moreThe buffet looked like it had been sitting for a while and didn’t look very appetizing.
We had friendly service and the drinks we ordered (Chalice Chocolate and Ginger Beer) were nice enough although again expensive for what they were.
We won’t come back unless we hear/read that things have changed in a BIG way.
Pros: House made cashew cheese is nice
Cons: Expensive, Very bland

Only two gluten free choices! - Edit
So disappointed with this place! When will people realise that eating a plant based diet isn’t simply about bulking food up with wheat or tofu instead of actually having fresh fruits and veggies prepared in a tasty and fulfilling way?
Read moreBeing gluten free I had a choice of Shepard’s Pie or one salad and the buffet which looked like it had been there for ages. I thought that’s alright I will have a fresh pressed juice as the menu goes to some lengths explaining how the have a special pressure machine only to find they only do bottles of packaged juice. So disappointed!!
Pros: Lots of vegan options
Cons: Almost no gluten free and no fresh juice

Another serving - Edit
I was so disappointed not to be able to eat here. I arrived at 7pm to find a sign saying the kitchen was closed! Although, the website and signs say serves until 8.30. Luckily there are other vegan options in Glastonbury so wasn’t left with nothing. I have to give a rating to do a review but feel this is unfair as I never actually tried the food or service.

I want to be nice but... - Edit
We had an awful lunch here. As vegans we chose it over other places in the town that offered some vegan options due to it being a totally vegan establishment. So we wanted to support them. But it was awful. Or at best just bland. At times hilarious - my overtoasted rock hard sandwich had a side salad of a single piece of lettuce... and to make such nasty tasting, dry cakes is an art in itself. And to serve them without any accompaniment (they were screaming for a bit of cream to moisten them up) was just mean!
Read moreWe had a coffee that was undrinkable. A few raw cake snacks that tasted of nothingness. A hot dog that was fine and came with a raw onion relish that consisted of a diced onion.
And none of it was particularly cheap. I don't know. On a positive it did have a nice interior and the salad bar looked good. But my god we had a duff meal and Excalibur really needs to up it's game.

Tasty and creative - Edit
I was looking for something delicious to hit the road with and the Excalibur didn’t disappoint. I got a fresh carrot juice and the Lancelot sandwich and a side of coleslaw and my friend got the hotdog. A little more flavor in the coleslaw wouldn’t have got amiss, but it was crunchy and creamy and still thoroughly enjoyable and the sandwiches were great. It was on the expensive side, but the ingredients were obviously fresh and good quality. They also had an allergen key in the menu, which always makes things easier. I would love to go back and try more of their food.

Fabulous almond vanilla latte - Edit
Thank you Excalibur cafe for providing a fresh take on vegan food in Glastonbury.Having been acquainted with vegan and vegetarian food in Glastonbury for over thirty years this cafe fills the gap between daytime and evening dining.
Read moreIt’s possible to enjoy vegan brunch/full lunch and dinner or just potter along for a chai latte and cake at any time of day.
That they are dog friendly also makes for a chatty and relaxed experience.
The buffet (as a biodegradable takeaway experience) was a good variation on salad and hot dishes.
However, it has to be the beautiful cakes and raw goodies that really entice a return trip.Red velvet with beetroot colouring was not too sweet and a perfect foil for an almond vanilla latte.
One could perhaps use the vegan and therefore “good” excuse to try a different cake every day.And as my gorgeous girl works there that might just be possible.

Has potential - Edit
Great to see organic vegan cafe a bit more effort could be put into the food. Sandwiches were expensive, came with 1 lettuce leaf on the side - any sides were extra. The cashew cheese pizza is a great, however the cashew cheese lacked flavour. Great potential, needs tweaking.

Expensive and a bit too hipster for me. - Edit
After a long journey and a walk to the top of the Tor and back my husband and I were hungry!
Read moreUnfortunately I found the food and especially drinks to be overpriced, never the less we gave it a go. My omni husband normally finds something on a vegan menu he can settle with but found the food to be ‘pretentious and overpriced’ so settled with an expensive drink (they also didn’t have any of their regular cakes in that day)
I had the Excalibur sandwich with a side of potato salad. The bread was half toasted and I found the seitan filling to be bland. The potato salad was what tasted like old boiled new potatoes served with cold parboiled veg drizzled in oil, honestly I found it disappointing. For pudding I had a brownie which wasn’t really what I would describe as a brownie, not particularly chocolatey and contained lots of dried fruits, nuts and desiccated coconut, aside from the misleading title it was fairly nice until I crunched down onto a date stone, which hurt. My white tea was very nice and served in a (cast iron?) handless tea cup and pot, whilst I found this to be very decorative it was impractical as the handless cup got extremely hot!
In short, if you are looking for an experience with adventurous healthy food then this is the place for you.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Unusual options, Clean and spacious
Cons: Expensive, Menu different rather than as expected/ homely , Different but not done well

Nice enough food but sloooooow - Edit
Really nice looking cafe, and the food was ok. However the speed of service was very slow. They messed up our order so the sides came out about 15 minutes after the main course, and even then when it was sent out from the kitchen we saw it sat waiting for a member of staff to bring it to us. A few looked at it but didn’t bother. In the end we collected it ourselves, which is not the end of the world, but self-service sides after you’ve finished the main course isn’t great.
Read moreAlso, each to their own, but the menu is full of pseudoscience crap. Apparently the restaurant is fitted with some system to reduce the damaging impact of 4g and wi-fi, and they do some bonkers filtration to tap water by spinning it in a filter. Mad.
Harmless enough, but I would not rush back.
Pros: Entirely vegan
Cons: Expensive , Terribly slow service , Crazy nonsense on menu

Hi Jmy,
Read moreIt really disappoints me to hear that you had such a negative experience here with us. Since your visit, we have made some huge changes.
We hired a new general manager in December and since then we have overhauled our entire menu, as well as our team - we have also added some more affordable dishes to cater for all budgets.
Our operations have also changed massively; now, the food is never usually waiting more than 30 seconds before a member of our team will arrive to bring it to your table. In the rare occasion we should be so busy that our front of house team cannot make it in time, the chef will step in to make sure the food isn't waiting longer than this.
We hope that you will consider reaching out to us via telephone, email, social media or even better in person - we would love to make this up to you with our new menu.
Many Thanks,
Excalibur

Hi Fiona,
Read moreI thought you may wish to know that the menu has changed in the last few weeks and now has a much wider range of more affordable options. Our menu is not only entirely plant-based, but also organic - as a result, we are more expensive than our closest 'competitors'. We are the only plant-based, organic cafe/restaurant this side of Bristol and we find that quality does always cost a little more.
Since we hired a new General Manager in December, the menu continues to improve - we offer a wide range of Organic mylks which we make ourselves as well as a huge range of Organic desserts.
In the next coming weeks we will be launching an entirely new breakfast menu, offering some really great value options to break the fast. We will also be launching an all new to-go range which we are very excited about.
In short, we would love to see you return to try some of our new offerings.
Cheers,

Pretty good - Edit
Visited Excalibur a few times trying a number of different vegan dishes (and there's plenty of these on the menu). All the food was tasty and enticed us to go back for more. There was an impressive selection of interesting looking smoothies and teas on the menu, but on each of our visits many of these weren't actually available as they didn't have the stock in. The poor staff looked pretty stressed and overstretched.

Hi PurplePerson,
Read moreThank you for your four-stars, we're glad you enjoyed your visit overalll.
I'm sorry to hear that many of our teas or smoothies were out of stock - unfortunately this was a common occurence during August and September last year, due to issues with our suppliers. We have since recovered and can now offer a much more consistent assortment of teas. Since we make all the juices and smoothies ourselves, these are generally always available.
We hope to see you again soon!

Mediocre & overpriced - Edit
Thought we would try this cafe on our recent visit to Glastonbury. Firstly it took ages to get anyone to take my order despite staff talking amongst themselves, ignoring people waiting to be served at the til and attending to other jobs. We got there at 11.35 and was told breakfast menu finished at 11.30 and that we couldn’t order off the lunch menu until 12!?! So they have half an hour where you can’t order any food?! When the food arrived it it was nice enough but not amazing. It also cost £40 for two drinks and two lunches.

Hi Clare,
Read moreI'm really saddened to read that this is how we used to operate.
Since your last visit, we have recruited an entirely new team led by an experienced new general manager who joined us in December. We are really proud of the work our team has put in over the festive period, to raise our game tremendously - with the addition of a revised seating plan and a fresh array of plants and fresh herbs.
In the next coming weeks we will be launching an entirely new breakfast menu, offering some really great value options to break the fast. We will also be launching an all new to-go range which we are very excited about.
We still very much welcome furry friends and just this morning received our first batch of vegan and organic dog treats!
We do still currently have a 30 minute interval whereby we do not serve any food from the kitchen - this is very common practise and simply allows for a changeover from breakfast prep to lunch. You will find this in cafes and restaurants where the food is prepared in house, it's a reassuring sign of freshness. You can still order from our huge range of desserts during this changeover period, this includes both baked and raw delights - we also run our entire drinks menu during this time as well.
We hope to see your return to give us another shot!
Many Thanks,
Excalibur

Great vegan cake - Edit
We went there for afternoon tea and cake and they had a lot of selection of both drinks and vegan cakes, including some really good gluten free ones. We couldn't tell they were gluten free, which is pretty impressive. We then went back for dinner and had the burger and pizza. These were okay, the burger was very nice and the potato wedges were lovely. The pizza was less good as their cashew cheese was just in lumps on the pizza and did not melt or taste very cheesy. Overall a great cafe which almost everything vegan. They did have a buffet for hot food and salad which looked pretty good but we did not try that.

Me and my girlfriend both got the hotdog. The portions were small and it didn’t taste very nice, in fact it was tasteless. A tiny salad of a few rocket leaves accompanied it and some potato wedges which were the only good thing. Very expensive for such a small portion. (8 pounds)
