My favorite Oaxaca Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Food is great. Right next to my hostel. My complaint is that it closes kinda early. Wouldn’t recommend the hot salad, everything else I have had is fantastic. Owner is cool. Definitely should go.

Book a cooking class now! - Edit
We sadly didn’t a chance to eat at Etnofood but we did do a cooking class which we can’t recommend it enough! We had a wonderful day learning how to make mole oaxaqueño. Took a trip to the market to get ingredients and learned about the trees we passed along the way. Martin was the best teacher, very informative, and we had a blast!

Chocolates and the Etno Sandwich - Edit
This cafe and garden is a lovely place to whittle away an afternoon. We ate a few things here but enjoyed the hummus-filled Etno sandwich the most - it would likely be even better if the bread was lightly toasted (you could request this, I'm sure).
Read moreDefinitely ask for the artisanal chocolates! They are creme-filled, beautifully presented, and available in 6-7 different flavours. I can recommend the lemon and jamaica ones, in particular.

Delicious vegan options :) - Edit
I had a fantastic 2 experiences here😄I got to try vegan mole, and I also had the hummus sandwich which was delicious. I also had the matcha latte with soy milk (i think they also had almond), and a lemon chocolate bonbon (DELICIOUS). I happened to show up right before an all vegan chocolate tasting, and it was a fantastic experience! The man who makes all the chocolate there told us so much of the history of Oaxaca chocolate, and we got to sample many of his creations, including the lemon cream filling used in the bonbons— apparently he made a pie with it too, I wish i had gotten that. Everyone is welcoming and the food is wonderful. Just know the portions aren’t huge and it’s slightly pricey.

Delicious and flavorful - Edit
This is a must if visiting Oaxaca. I also did the cooking course, where you learn about the history and use of many local ingredients. Made a delicious fresh juice, salad, rice, and mole that was not overly complicated, absolutely incredible and something very doable again.

Must-stop for any Oaxacan visit - Edit
Etnofood is a must stop if you are in Oaxaca especially if you are vegan or vegetarian. It has a bar that serves crazy-good mezcal cocktails, and a sitting area and a wonderful back patio and garden that serves crazy-good Oaxacan food.
Read moreMore than just a bar & restaurant, Etnofood is a foodlab built around a team of very dedicated cooks who want to share their love and knowledge of the local cuisine. They provide cooking and chocolate making workshops, mezcal tasting, and mixology courses.
Their goal is nothing short of building a community centered around sustainability and optimal yumminess. Really, if you’re in Oaxaca, this place is not-to-be-missed.
