Ernesto Cafes Especiais
Serves meat, vegan options available. A traditional local cafe that also makes breads and offers a vast menu that includes substitutes like cashew or soy milk. Its fusion cuisine works with Italian, French, and American recipes, but also produces Brazilian dishes, like tapioca, brigadeiro, and a mocha shake (ask for vegan milk). Upstairs bookstore with seating available. Usually crowded, so try to make a reservation or arrive early. Open Tue-Sun 7:00am-10:00pm.

Best coffe shake in town! - Edit
I don't use sugar in anything, so I was extremely happy to not only find a vegan shake option (banana-mocha with cashew milk), but also discover that it had no added sugar (only sweetness from its ingredients). They have a diverse menu, an excellent bakery, a beautiful patio, and an appealing upstairs bookstore. Try their potato bread: you won't stop eating till the loaf's all gone! A pretty good vegan tapioca too. I'm pretty sure they have sweet vegan options, i.e. desserts, but I've never looked for them. Many more vegetarian options, with a great cheese selection.
Pros: Beautiful spaces, Excellent coffee, Good service
Cons: Slightly pricy, Crowded on weekends
