Delicious lunch, beautiful surroundings - Edit
It’s no secret that it’s difficult to find vegan food in the Japanese countryside. We went here for my birthday lunch. They may have shortened business hours due to Covid, I recommend making a reservation in advance.
Read moreI really loved everything about this place. Nestled deep in the mountains, it’s peaceful and scenic. The food was almost all locally grown and of course freshly made. We had a set lunch with many small dishes including rice, spring rolls, soup, pasta salad, croquettes, and fried veggies. We followed out lunch with a warm drink, in my case I tried the soymilk chai.
The owner was friendly and talkative. The cafe itself is quite quaint and a lovely atmosphere. I’d love to visit this cafe again!

fantastic vegetarian and atmospheric cafe - Edit
The fire place in the corner, the handmade wooden furniture the friendly owner, the cute farmyard outside.
Read moreWhen you enter you feel as if you have been transported to another world. The vegetarian food was very impressive given how remote this area is. Breakfast and dinner were both amazing, full of a variety of healthy vegies.
We walked the kumano kodo and stayed the night at the guest house. The healthy food was very welcome after a long days hike, fueled by some cheeky snacks.
I'd definerely recommend staying in the guest house as they kindly picked us up by and dropped us off at hongu by car.
Hiking the kumano kodo as a vegetarian is becoming much easier with options like this!!
Pros: lots of vegies and big portions, crazy farmyard animals outside! , very friendly

Most amazing vegan breakfast ever!!! - Edit
Located in beautiful mountain side of UNESCO World heritage Kumano, Japan.
Read moreThe owner and his family lived in a city but decided to move to Kumano with their 5 kids, such a happy family-style B&B with goats and a dog, he cut the trees and made an amazingly beautiful room and cafe with fireplace!! A real perm-culture pioneer!! His lovely wife is an amazing macrobiotic chef I still can’t forget that fabulous breakfast and organic French-pressed coffee !! Amazing deal of ¥4000 a night (¥7000 with vegan dinner) they will come and pick you up at Hongu bus terminal (熊野本宮大社バスターミナルまで迎えに行きます) Fabukous weekend away from Osaka!! Highly recommended 😆
