There are vegan options here but after ordering the vegetarian platter-split pea, lentils, collards and cabbage and really only being able to eat the cabbage dish I cannot rate them highly. Everything was over-the-top salty. And I have a salt living pallet. My vegan friend has an even harder time with the salt content then I did. Unfortunate because the other reviews made it sound so promising.

Best Ethiopian restaurant in Ohio - Edit
This place is amazing, and has been for a long while now. Yes, other Ethiopian restaurants have opened in the area and are receiving a lot of attention but Empress Taytu remains the best. The veggie platter is delicious, as are all the vegan dishes offered. The staff is kind and the setting is perfect. I seriously think Empress Taytu, when we take every aspect of a restaurant into consideration, is one of the best restaurants in northeast ohio.
Read moreThe only downfall is that the wait times tend to be very long, but that itself isn't necessarily bad. This is definitely a party oriented restaurant, as the setting and the dishes are well suited for enjoying your dining experience with friends. While waiting for your food, enjoy the traditional coffee ceremony or a glass of Ethiopian tea.

My wife and I had a fantastic meal here. It was our first time having family style Ethiopan food. Our server was friendly and knowledgable about vegan options which are marked as options on the menu. It was pretty busy when we were there on a Friday night and there were only three servers, so at times we had to wait a bit for service.
We shared the Foule appetizer and each ordered a drink. My wife had the Empress Taytu which was good, but not worth $13 and I had a bottled beer which was exactly what I expected. The foule was delicious with fresh vegetables that added good flavor and texture to go with the bread which was semi-sweet and a bit cake like in texture.
For our main course, we shared the Vegetable Combination which probably would have been enough for both of us by itself and was a great value at $16. The different flavors, textures, and crepe like injera made this very enjoyable.
We also shared the Inguday Tibs which was delicious with a hint of Thanksgiving flavors. I would have preferred this to have less oil as it was a bit heavy.
The bathroom was a bit run down with some sagging wall panels, rusty stalls, and stained toilet which were a bit off putting, but it was clean and well stocked.
The location isn't the best, but there was pleny of parking and it wasn't hard to find.

The food here is very delicious. They have a veggie sampler platter that is vegan. The mushroom appetizer comes out above hot coals and is out of this world. You can sit in traditional low chairs and a low table that is fun. They also have a little hut that you can sit in. If you’ve never tried Ethiopian food, you’ve never had this combination of spices, so try it out!
