Vegan food in hobbit-moderne surrounds - Edit
The place mixes the modern with the hobbit, so you get large chemistry beakers filled with live plants sitting on your wooden table, and plastic plants mixed among the herbs and other living greenery.
It's a nice, welcoming contrast of hobbit and new.
As to the food, i had some spiced chips, which were made of potato, beetroot and sweet potato along with turmeric kimchee and some pickle. I had a kaffir lime tonic to go with this.
The spiced chips were tasty, though a little salty. Some were also a little firm. Unless that was the texture they were going for, i'd say they were a bit undercooked. The aioli that came with them was thin and watery.
The turmeric kimchi and pickle were nice, although the serve of the pickle, in particular was small, and both were difficult to eat without spilling from the small crescent dishes they came in.
The pickle was interesting, as instead of coming as a whole pickle (a small one based on the quantity i got), it was made up of thin shaves.
The kimchi and pickle also came on this uneven wooden platter, so unless you wanted to pretend you were eating on the rolling seas, this made eating the them even trickier.
The spritzer was very fresh and had a distinct herbal element - as well as looking pretty green from what i think was added chrlorophyll. I decided to take it as is, though it wasn't sweet enough for me, but the barman would've been happy to add sweetening if i'd asked.
The main waitress i had was very helpful, and other staff were also friendly.
Overall, i like the place, despite some glitches which might iron out - they only opened this month. An interesting twist on presentation, food and drinks.
