Got our stomach full but nothing special

Dishes that were available vegan were clearly marked in the menu (remember to emphasize you want the vegan version!) and there was handfull to choose from. However, there was no tofu or other protein source in most of them (one had chickpeas I think).

I took vegetable pakora as a starter and it was great (well, what isn’t when deep fried?), and an eggplant curry as a main course. Unfortunately, the curry was extremely plain! All the curries were served with rice and bread, and in the vegan dish the bread was papadum, while vegetarians and meat eaters got lovely soft naan-type bread.

So, could be just a me problem, but wouldn’t go again.

Yum!

All the vegan options are indeed clearly marked as potentially vegan, so I would also go the extra mile to let your server know as well. Got the lentil dal, and yum, forgot to take a picture of it as I essentially inhaled it. Perfect level of spicy, which I know is very subjective. If you don’t do spice, avoid this one. Many other delicious looking things on the menu as well.

It’s on the second floor and had a great ambiance, but from what I could tell, it wasn’t accessibility friendly. So need to be able to climb a couple flights of stairs.

Pros: Great food, Good service, Lovely ambiance

Great food, good price, healthy serving size

Would give this place five stars if I could. Had the okra curry and the eggplant curry (sometimes you don’t need protein!) Food was fantastic, tasty, generous portions. Actually the best lady’s fingers I’ve ever tasted. Don’t know where they got them from, but they were cooked to perfection! Rice is included, and they also give you free onion salad an papadums.

Limited options but what there is hits the spot.

A few good vegan options, with a great variation for vegetarians. The restaurant has a nice vibe and it's fairly reasonably priced for Old Town Tallinn.

If you want Indian food, go here

Has its own vegan menu, cozy place, sometimes can be busy, location is easy in Old Town. I just love the Chana Vindaloo (chickpea vindaloo). Super spicy and delicious.

Excellent lunch

Arrived straight off the ferry from Helsinki. We chose the vegetarian Thalia and it was great. We also had a local beer which was also very good. The staff spoke fluent English and were very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful Indian food

We ate there at lunch hour, as soon as it opened. We were the only customers! Vegan options were on the first pages on the menu and marked clearly. Staff was very friendly, food arrived fast and it was both aesthetically pleasing and very tasty. I had daal and my husband had chickpeas.

Pros: Very tasty Indian food, Many vegan options , Nice atmosphere

The best Indian restaurant

I have been visiting Elevant for many years. Recently they have added a vegan category to the menu making ordering much easier. The food here is world-class, I have been to India 3 times and grew up in London with many great places to eat and Elevant is the best I have found. Their Baigan bharta, South Indian daal and Aloo gobi are great. All the dishes come with bread and rice, if you are vegan ask them to give you Puri or Chapati bread, as the naan they usually give you is not vegan.

The prices are also excellent for Tallinn and the style is rustic and relaxed.

I have visited Elevant more than a hundred times, so my review isn't based on a single visit.

Pros: Excellent food, Great atmosphere, Good prices

Cons: You have to ask them for the vegan option, Very popular, so can be busy at weekends, Can't think of another con

Good indian style food

Nice and cozy restaurant with good indian style food. You can get vegan version of the dish by asking. The only throwback was that you had to pay for the extra rice (we run out of the first bowl of rice, because there wasn't so big amount of it..). Otherwise I recommend the place!

Pros: Good food, You can easily get vegan version, Moderate prices

Cons: You have to pay for extra rice

My favorite place in Tallinn!

To begin with, the Elevant restaurant is in a good location in Old Town. The dining rooms are wide and comfortable with arm-chairs and pillows. The style is warm and unique with pieces of art hanging on the ceilings. The big windows offer you an amazing view to the street from the 2nd floor while you're having your meal.

The service is quick and polite. Waiters speak English well and are happy to make recommendations.

Soups are super-tasty, include a basket of naan bread and are inexpensive (5€ for the whole goodness). The main dishes are big and served with rice and naan bread. I was a bit disappointed that they served only white rice on the side but I might ask next time if it's possible to have a more eco-friendly alternative, e.g. potatoes.

Flavors are authentic and fresh, in a great balance and I'm sure that even a bigger group can find something to have in this place!

Only minus comes from the fact that they charge ridiculously much for a glass of water. But who said you have to drink while you're eating, I at least always have my own glass bottle of water with me or continue to another place for drinks, if that's the case. ;)

Pros: Amazing and inexpensive Indian food, Quick and nice service and environment, Huge and clean bathrooms

Cons: Expensive water to drink, Rice on the side, May be booked up on som weekend evenings

Not going back as they charge for tap water

Elevant was a great favorite of mine for special occasions (a bit pricy for regular visits) and spicy Indian cravings. Until I went back there for my birthday lunch in summer of 2012 and discovered they were charging for tap water. After that the food just didn't seem to taste as good any more. On principle I am not going back until they stop the ridiculous practice of charging for tap water, in Australia that would be illegal.

Pros: Nice location, Good atmosphere

Cons: Pricy, They charge for tap water

Nice + vegan friendly

A very nice place in the old town center of Tallinn and probably one of the best places in Tallinn for vegetarians and vegans to go to (especially since at this moment there are only two vegetarian restaurants in town which are both located outside of the ancient center).

The "Elevant" is really nice with an oriental, cozy and friendly atmosphere. The menu (in Estonian + English) shows an extended selection of vegetarian dishes. There are no vegan dishes shown, but the staff members I talked to understood the concept of veganism, it was not necessary to explain anything ("of course we have vegan dishes!"). I was advised to go through the section for vegetarian dishes and they would let me know which of those could be veganized. I went for a curry dish with rice (made with vegetable oil). It came with some (also vegan, as the waitress stressed out) flat bread and a side salad. The side salad consisted mainly of (mild) onions which I did not like too much but the rest was really yummy.

The staff is extremely friendly and speaks excellent English.

Pros: good food with vegan options, superfriendly staff, nice atmosphere

Cons: serves meat, vegan options not on menu
