A must visit while in Tucson! - Edit
Tucson was designated the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy in 2015 and the vegan food scene here never disappoints. Couple that with El Torero, a family owned and run Mexican restaurant which has been in Tucson since 1957 and plant based menu options and WOW! We had the tofu and potato tacos with mole sauce and the potato and spinach enchiladas. Both are huge portions served with black beans and calabacitas. YUMMY! 😋

Blew my friggin mind - Edit
I had this like… roasted cauliflower tofu elote yakisoba with kimchi. This restaurant instantly jumped into my top 5 maybe top 3 in Arizona. Super low key unassuming vibes. I’ll definitely be back.

Don’t miss out! - Edit
This place was delicious! Their vegan menu is on an insert with cocktails and specials and had many options. I tried the shroom and potato tacos and they were so good, not to mention huge!

Super delicious! - Edit
Found El Torero through Happy Cow and went with a group of five tonight. The plant based options were excellent and plentiful (you’ll find them on the same menu as drinks and specials - which is a supplemental menu). I had a soyrizo burrito that was enormous and extremely tasty. The horchata is made with coconut milk and is also delicious. Great staff and very friendly proprietor.

Amazing authentic Sonoran cuisine - Edit
Be sure to ask for the plant-based menu. Based on other reviews, the options seem to change periodically, but the menu is extensive and delicious. Not only are there authentic Sonoran flavors, but the dishes also have protein. Also the margaritas are great.

8 Vegan Daily Specials ! - Edit
I have never seen so many Vegan options in a traditional Sonoran Mexican restaurant. I chose Artichoke linguini with mushrooms, elote (grilled corn) lots of lime and many other plant-based ingredients. It was the best "spaghetti" I've ever tasted!

Vegan Tamale Pie - Edit
Do not let the modest exterior stop you from enjoying one the finest meals you’ll ever have. The staff was extremely nice and knowledgeable. I got the tamale pie. It was amazing. It’s big enough for two people to share and I had a nice chat with one of the owners.

Hole in the wall - Edit
My first time here and will certainly be back. Half the daily specials are vegan with other options in the main menu that are veg and can be made vegan. Yummy house made frescas and the vegan options are so dang good. And not just beyond beef here and beans there kind of stuff. Actual creativity put into the dishes 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I had the oyster mushroom verde enchiladas that were 10/10. I want to come back for lunch tomorrow...

Gourmet Mexican food - Edit
Don’t be fooled by the modest building or it’s location. The Chef is a culinary trained genius. The food has the traditional flavors of Sonoran Mexican food and the rotating vegan specials are creative and beautiful to look at as well as tasting fantastic. You will start your meal with free chips and delicious house-made salsas. This place is a gem, and we’re so glad we discovered it. We’ll be going back with friends! Cold beer and house-made sangrias compliment the food. The service was friendly and attentive.
