Best vegan bar in Madrid - Edit

Full vegan bar with plenty of options, including tapas, sandwiches (bocadillos), organic drinks and salads.
Their vegan chorizo, lentil meatballs, fries and croquetas are amazing, all made fresh from scratch and in small batches to order, so you get the freshest food every time.
The waitress is incredibly sweet and caring, the bar itself is beautifully decorated, warm, cozy and animal-friendly. Everything is meant to be eco-friendly and organic (even the napkins are made from recycled paper), using local and fresh products.
------------------------------------------------------------

Pros: Everything., Todo.

Great - Edit

El perro gamberro is a cozy restaurant in one of the best neighborhoods of Madrid. Food is very tasty, I'd say the tastiest I've tried in Madrid vegan scene. I'm myself from Madrid and I love Spanish food, unfortunately Spanish food has a lot of meat and fish, this restaurant is the one if you want to try typical Spanish dishes in vegan tasty version. If you want to try a Paella or other special meals call one day in advance to make a reservation. Enjoy Vegan Spain!

Original y diferente.

Pros: Bien de precio, raciones generosas, Ambiente de veganismo militante, cero "postureo"

Cons: El sitio es pequeño

Great Vegan Place - Edit

Awesome vegan cafe which offers amazing food. We have been there multiple times now and it has been great every time!

It is really small so if you plan to go there on friday evening probably should phone them before!

I wish it was open everyday of the week.

Tasty vegan food, lots of variety! - Edit

I was the only diner in the restaurant at lunchtime, and the staff there were really nice and explained the dishes to me. I began the meal with a delicious sweet hibiscus iced tea and a bread basket and some toast with nut pate. I also ordered the patatas bravas, which was one of the most flavorful dishes I had in Spain. Delicious!

Not bad - Edit

We had an reasonable meal here, but for the price this place is not of the same standard as other vegan places in Madrid. I didn't walk out disappointed though.

Ambience was also a little lacking, though the upcycled furniture is cool.

This is the kind of restaurant that a few years ago might have been groundbreaking but because of the thriving growth in the vegan scene, it doesn't quite measure up. Up the road is viva burger, which is better.

Later that evening we ate in vega - 15e a head for a meal that bordered on exquisite. That's what we had paid for lunch at el Perro gamberro.

Pros: It'll fill you up!, We had a wonderful dessert

Cons: Ambience - poor quality speakers , Buns and wraps could have been higher quality

ELPERROGAMBERRO 28 Mar 2017 - Dear "Grazer",
We feel very sad about your opinion, your comparison with other vegan restaurants seems totally unnecessary and unfair since each one has its own style, decoration, space and menu. We are not a restaurant with great facilities and resources such as Viva Burger or Vega but instead we are a small, cozy and charming vegan tavern where our only cook prepares all the food at the moment with fresh first quality ingredients and with great love and care. We don't know what you ate at the other restaurants to pay 15 €, but we do not consider ourselves an expensive place. On the contrary, our prices are very tight with the quantity, size and quality of what we serve. To continue with your comparison and just to set 4 examples to date: Our super burger served with a good portion of fries freshly cut and fried in pure olive oil has a price of 10.50 € and in Viva Burger it costs 13.50 €. Our burrito of grilled asparagus and mushrooms with avocado and figs (which you call wrap) also served with a large portion of fries is priced at 8.50 € and in Viva Burger it costs 10.50 €. Our homemade cakes have a price per serving of 3.80 € and in Viva Burger they cost between 5 and 6 €. Our cookie has a price of 2 € and in Viva Burger it costs 3.50 €. Our portion of Spanish omelette has a price of 3.50 € and in Viva Burger it costs 3.95 €. We do not charge for the bread basket as they do. The other options of our menu, including drinks, are also cheaper compared to the menus of the other two restaurants you mention. You do not tell how many servings/tapas you ordered other than your burrito or how many people where at your table and what they ate and drank.
Regarding our bread which also you criticize, we let you know that, unlike most all the places, we DO NOT USE FROZEN bread that it is heated in the oven or microwave. Ours is a bread from a traditional bakery that makes the bread as it used to be made and delivers it to us every day. It also provides us with the buns for the burgers and hot dogs.
It is very easy to put forward one criticism like yours from the anonymity of internet. We of course like the restaurants you mention and many more vegan restaurants that fortunately are in the Madrid scene and also we support them all.
We cook from the heart, we make our clients leave happily and most of them repeat their visit more than once and twice!! We wish we could have more resources and a bigger space, and for you a better "ambience". With love EL PERRO GAMBERRO.

Grazer 29 Mar 2017 - Dear EPG,

I'm sorry my opinion hurt your feelings.

Rather than acting defensively, I encourage you to consider the comments and make improvements where you think they are valid.

With regard to a price comparison with Viva, their burger lunch deal is cheaper than what I ate at yours - including a drink, and dessert. However, a la carte, you are correct - they are more expensive.

Running your sound system through poor quality TV speakers is tacky. Music is part of an establishments ambience.

You can read opinions of mine about vegan restaurants all over the world - I'm generally very kind. I hesitated to write an opinion In your case but I felt it was a 3* experience taking into account satisfaction in relation to price - we shared a starter, had a drink and shared a dessert. And that cost 15 bucks each, which I didn't think was fair value. Is there perhaps a pricing point where you are not as competitive as you think? Was there a set lunch menu that you offer that we missed? I'll make this clear - as far as a lunches go, I've eaten in several vegan establishments in Madrid. Yours was one of the most expensive and not one of the best.

It wouldn't take much to improve - as I wrote, it wasn't a bad experience. The dessert was wonderful!

You are right - it is very easy to put forward an anonymous criticism. And there are many reviewers out there not as kind as I am, of this I have no doubt. I suggest looking at how other establishments respond to criticism in a non-confrontational manner. Your response leaves you open to further criticism. Ask yourself - what if, in my initial criticism, I was actually being kind and considered your establishment closer to a 2* than a 4*? How might I have reacted to your response?

Glad to hear your wrap and buns are fresh. I wouldn't order the wrap again, though the burger was nice. I thought the chips were great - my companion didn't.

I genuinely wish you every success. Chin up - you've only had one 3* review, and everyone else so far thinks you're the best!

Keep on making food from the heart.

Kindest,

Grazer.

Very nice place! - Edit

A very nice, clean, small but cozy place. The waitress was really nice, there are English menus available. All on the menu is vegan. My friend and me tried the homemade Burger and the tortilla española - both really, really delicious! My friend is not vegan, but she said that the burger was so much better than most meat-burgers. We're highly recommending this place :)
The prices are regular, I'd say neither cheap nor overly expensive.

Pros: Delicious, homemade food, Just all natural ingredients, Nice waiters

Cons: None, we were just happy :)

Amazing vegan tapas bar - Edit

We really enjoyed the excellent and tasty vegan tapas. They've really nailed the veganization of typical spanish non-vegan dishes: probably the best vegan spanish tortilla I've ever eaten and also the ensaladilla rusa was just as good as the one my mum used to cook. There were four of us and we shared 4 tapas and tacos gamberros. Sum up 2 bottles of wine, 1 piece of cake and coffee/tee + tip: 18€/each. Highly recommended

Pros: excellent tasty tapas, price, location

Cons: not many tables

Very tasty food. Maybe not too health or not the easiest food to digest (fried &fat etc). Kind staff. Not too many gluten free options. Price OK, would not say cheap nor expensive.

Pros: Kind staff and very tasty, Spanish Tapas all vegan, Located centrally

Cons: Not the healthiest food or easiest to digest. Not

Espectacular taberna vegana casera - Edit

Recomendado 100%. Ya tengo otro sitio fijo en Madrid!

Pros: comida casera, precios, servicio
