My new favorite Mexican restaurant. - Edit
We're traveling from MN and I hope to come back specifically for this restaurant. I'm not used to seeing this many vegan options in a Mexican restaurant. As someone else has said in their review, just about everything has a vegan option. I didn't think there were any vegan ice cream options though.
Read moreMy wife had the vegan empanadas a la michoacana, I had the vegan enchiladas, and we shared the nachos with the vegan asada option. We also had the aguas frescas.

This place is incredible, they pretty much have the whole menu available in vegan version. Everything is seasoned to perfection 10/10. I’m Mexican Mexican and this place is 100% authentic. I only wish they had vegan horchata 🤤.

We tried the burria tacos, burrito pastor style, and sopes Michoacano style. Everything was delicious but the sopes really stood out for us! If you live nearby or are passing through, don't miss El Michoacano.

Holy cow - this place is such a surprise! I've been there twice now. I really feel like you could eat there every day for 3 weeks and try something new each time. They can make almost anything on the menu vegan, and it is SO incredibly delicious. Try the vegan birria tacos. The only thing I wasn't blown away by was the fries - pretty basic, but honestly, fries are not why I am there! Their sauces, their soy meats...all so good. El Michoacano makes me want to move to Des Moines.

Oh my gosh I would eat here every day if I could. My sister and I split 2 different types of tacos and also got adobada fries. We both absolutely loved it. They have so many options! This is an absolute gem. It’s so hard to find vegan Mexican food at all, let alone in Iowa!

I wish I had known about this place sooner! Because they are mainly nonvegan it means it is a place where my whole family can eat happily. They offer a vegan form of pretty much everything, and I love it! The burritos are my favorite. But I also like the flautas and the tacos are great for a lighter option.

Extensive Menu of Authentic Mexican Foods - Edit
The entire menu can be made vegan, which is greatly appreciated, and vegan ice cream is offered as well. The family staff are always very friendly and helpful, the service is always prompt, and the food is always filling and well-made. Overall the food tends towards mild, but salsas are available for those who want spice. The only consistent annoyance is that I lose cell phone signal in the building, but there's nothing wrong with appreciating a good meal without distraction.

The staff was great! Very helpful, allowed me to bring in my own reusable cup for water, and they have an entirely separate vegan menu available that you can take home. It's basically the normal menu but with vegan meat and cheese substitutes. Pretty tasty, though!

I ordered the vegan tacos with fries on the side. The "meat" on the tacos are a soy alternative and they are marinated to perfection. You can get anything with the meat, so if you want nachoes or burrito or anything else on the menu they are very open to making anything veganize.
Also they always have at least two vegan ice creams or flavored ice as well.
