Delicious mezze - Edit
The negative reviews must be from a different time, because when we passed through, El Jardin de Califa had a large choice of vegan and vegetarian dishes, most of them mezze. Several vegetarian dishes can be veganized easily as well, just ask (the printed menu does not differentiate between vegan and vegetarian, but the online version does). The food quality was outstanding and the décor even more so. Would give five stars if I could.

Experiencia exquisita - Edit

Gujarati? I don't think so. - Edit
I was keen to compare my pastela at the humble Cortijo in Zahara de la Sierra with the much posher Jardin del Califa. This one was described as "vegetarian pastela from the oven: a Gujarati recipe with Moroccan spices, prepared with potatoes and peas and served with fresh mango chutney."
Read moreWell, excuse me, but I think I know what Gujarati dishes taste like, having formerly lived near Wembley for decades, and this wasn't it. If they hadn't described it as Gujarati, it would've been perfectly acceptable.

Romantic - Edit
I had a lovely time at El Jardín del Califa. The place is really beautiful, the atmosphere quite special and we had dinner under a jasmine bush in the patio. Unfortunately, there are not many vegan options and they are not well described on the menu.
Read moreI had a couple of mezze which were nice, a lovely saffron sorbet, good red wine, and an herb liquor.
All in all, my experience was positive and I had the romantic dinner I was looking for.

Great moroccan restaurant with decent amount of options - Edit
You'll first be amazed but how cool the location looks. Then you'll get confused by the menu. You can look at the paper menu and it's going to be different (regarding vegetarian/vegan dishes) from the online one that you can download scanning the qr code. Indeed in the paper menu there's an indication only for vegetarian and not vegan dishes. In the online menu there are some dishes that have lactose as an allergen but they are marked as vegan. My advise is to ask the waiter, we did that and he was very kind. It turned out that many dishes marked as vegetarian were also vegan and others could be easily made vegan. Everything we ordered was really good, we had Mezze del Califa (best babaganoush ever), Malfouk, Harira and Tagine vegetal. We were very pleased with all of them. I would definitely recommend the place if you're in Vejer de la Frontera.

Casi nada vegano - Edit

Cons: Caro y opciones casi nulas

Comida buena, trato malo - Edit
