We were beyond thrilled to find this gem of a restaurant during our travels. Great vegan food and a friendly atmosphere. It's not easy to find this place, by the way. They need better signs. Worth this search, though!

Cool place to check out! - Edit
Visited the El Haso with my partly vegan family and we weren't dissapointed. The burger was very good and it all looked good on the plate as well. The dessert was small but amazing! A heaven for every sweet lover. I had a coke by a brand I have never heard of before - loved it! Much better than coca cola.

Cozy underground restaurant. They only had 1 food option on the menu on a Wednesday night but it was delicious! We got a veggie burger with potatoes and salad. The burger patty was extra crispy and not your same old boring veggie burger. You have to order from the bar so don’t wait for someone to come around.

Went with a date and we both had burgers. Not a big menu but the burger was delicious and so were our “wedges.” Served with a curry sauce and a garlic sauce —perfect with a local draft beer. My date had the house made lemonade with ginger and that was delish, too. They offered desserts but we were too full to taste. Stairs going down look sketchy but the atmosphere felt very wholesome and many of the guests were playing board games. Got very crowded and would be good to make a res.

Mein erster Besuch in einem veganen Restaurant und ein Volltreffer. Ich durfte hier einen superleckeren Burger genießen und habe mich pudelwohl gefühlt. Frisches, liebevoll zubereitetes Essen. Lockere , gemütliche Atmosphäre und sehr sehr freundliches und angenehmes Personal. Alles perfekt für mich und weiterzuempfehlen 🍔💚👍

This s a must visit for vegans in Freiburg. After reading the comments it was not that hard to find. The place deserves 5 stars imo. Cozy place, friendly staff, super delicious homemade food (and a few drinks), which is on the healthy side without losing flavour! Not too spicy or anything, it's just right. Very interesting flavours and a very skilled chef that knows how to cook with veggies, he does not require cheap, prepackaged meat replacements and such. And the cake was amazingly delicious as well. Veggies are bought regionally seasonally. I gladly pay the very reasonable price for such quality. Food is prepared fresh on demand by one chef, so be prepared to wait.

El Haso is a great all-vegan pub in a cozy cellar location. Their burger is really good, filling and reasonably priced (about 10 EUR including potatoes or salad). They also offer great drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and some daily changing dishes, which are a bit more healthy-sounding than a burger.

Nach längerem suchen haben wir das El Hasso auch noch gefunden. Fast unerkennbar führte eine kleine Treppe in den Untergrund. Zuerst dachte ich, dass da unten ein Pissoir sei, dann entdeckten wir eine kleine Tafel die auf das Restaurant hinwies.

Zum Abendessen bestellten wir eine Suppe, den Hamburger mit Kartoffeln und Salat sowie die Gemüserösti. Das Essen schmeckte super und war auch schön angerichtet.
Bestellung werden an der Theke angenommen aber das Essen wird an den Tisch gebracht.
Etwas störend empfand ich den Kellner hinter der Theke, der sich während unserem Aufenthalt andauernd mit den Händen durch die Haare fuhr und danach mit ungewaschenen Händen Brot schnitt und Essen servierte. Vielleicht würde da ein Haarreif Abhilfe schaffen.

The food is made of organic and mostly seasonal ingredients. It does taste extraordinary. Sometimes I think when I eat somewhere else I would have made a much better job in cooking that. I can’t cook like people in that place. At least not now - maybe some time in thefuture ;)

Nice place with super friendly stuff and super yummy vegan burgers! The atmosphere is chilled and cosy. The portions are big enough for hungry Vegans and the price is totally okay for the size of the food!

I was in Freiburg for a conference and delighted to find this place. Having read the reviews on Happy Cow ahead of time, I knew not to be put off by the underground location. I guy behind the bar was very helpful in translating the menu for me and remembered me when I came back later in the week. The portions are large and the meal was tasty - the side salad with each meal was quite good. My favorite was there housemade lemonade - mmmm! Good service, good food, all vegan.

El Haso is placed, a bit weirdly, underground, and the only way to the place is through a shabby passage. It got me a bit discouraged at the beginning, but once I got inside, my fears vanished, as it turned out to be a nice, alternative place, with stained glass windows and stylish old tables. They offer free water which apparently is a rarity in Germany. I was warned that they have a /healthy/ profile, so the food can sometimes be underspiced, but the burger that I ordered was actually very decent, the buns being freshly baked and the patty a bit flabby but it tasted well. The freshly baked potato wedges with the salad complemented the balanced composition on my plate - and it was just like it was supposed to be. It was not the best thing that I ever had, but it was certainly decent, worth its price and nobody left unsatisfied :-) El Haso - YES!

Went there for an early dinner on a saturday. We ordered spinach lassagna and burgers, and both things were beyond delicious! For dessert we had a raw cake and it was a bit small but also really good. Staff is very nice, so is the place. A must!

I've been there a few times and the food has always been amazing. There are two mains to choose from each day (+ salads, soup, desserts...) so the food is really fresh and tasty. The dishes are very elaborate, the flavors are unique and the portions are just perfect. They serve burgers after 10pm each day and one can check their daily menu on their website. Everything is vegan.

Discovering El Haso made me a very happy earthling and I am going there every time I'm in Freiburg. They have a varied menu plus two daily options, which always have been an explosion of culinary creativity. The portions are huge and the food is fresh, healthy and extremely tasteful. The salads are very recommendable too as, here again, originality and taste are keywords: The consist of a variation of lettuces, wild herbs, different kinds of other veggies - each one made with different seasonings - and are accompanied by a little burger-patty or something similar. The homemade lemonade and the dessert are great as well.
