Fresh and tasty food with unique flavours - Edit

I've been there a few times and the food has always been amazing. There are two mains to choose from each day (+ salads, soup, desserts...) so the food is really fresh and tasty. The dishes are very elaborate, the flavors are unique and the portions are just perfect. They serve burgers after 10pm each day and one can check their daily menu on their website. Everything is vegan.

There is a courtyard to eat outside when the weather is nice. The indoor space has no natural light but it's got a nice atmosphere.

Pros: Fresh food, Lovely staff, Nice atmosphere

Cons: No natural light

Paradise! - Edit

Discovering El Haso made me a very happy earthling and I am going there every time I'm in Freiburg. They have a varied menu plus two daily options, which always have been an explosion of culinary creativity. The portions are huge and the food is fresh, healthy and extremely tasteful. The salads are very recommendable too as, here again, originality and taste are keywords: The consist of a variation of lettuces, wild herbs, different kinds of other veggies - each one made with different seasonings - and are accompanied by a little burger-patty or something similar. The homemade lemonade and the dessert are great as well.

Pros: Overly delicious-healthy-creative-food, Big portions, Everything!

Cons: None!

perfect food, no yuppies - Edit

fresh, excellent food (and a lot of it). probably the best i got in all vegan restaurants i tested yet.

restaurant located in basement; very peaceful, beautiful and anti-idiots environment.

easy to find, in the middle of the city, very close to tram station.

Pros: excellent food, peaceful environment, no yuppies

Delicious surprise! - Edit

We were a bit sceptical about visiting this restaurant as it was described as under ground and a bit of an English pub. however, it was really cosy inside and had a nice terrace outdoors.

Food was delicious and the staff were super friendly! Must visit.

Pros: Many vegan options

Cons: none

Relaxed and delicious - Edit

You must go downstairs and the establishment is on the left. You order at the bar. I understand they have a revolving menu but everything was vegan when we came. The service was welcoming and the food was great. Would recommend.

Pros: Delicious food

Cons: None

in the underground - Edit

Twice I've been in the El Haso and every time I loved the easy-going staff and the procedure of ordering the dishes at the bar. The menue is quite manageable but includes regional and seasonal dishes. El Haso is also a good place where you can enjoy a beer and the company of good friends in a laid-back atmosphere (board games and books are available and sometimes cultural events take place).

Pros: good value, regional and seasonal dishes, pub atmosphere

Literally underground, nice alternative feeling - Edit

Really cool place under Leopoldring. Immediately felt at home. Service with a smile. Had a great vegan risotto. Most of the time I miss parmagiano cheese, but not this time. Fresh vegs with good seasoning. Really tasty. Would love to eat here again. Will do for sure.

Pros: alternative atmosphere, great cooks, service with a smile

Full of surprises:) - Edit

One of the few places in Freiburg where you can always get a decent vegan meal, also late in the evening. Great spot (just next to White Rabbit club), different menu every week, inexpensive.

Some of the dishes are amazing, others can be a bit bland but.. hey, new week, new menu:)

Sometimes they also do Sunday brunches with homemade vegan croissants, scrambled tofu, pancakes, spreads, etc - not to be missed!

Pros: relaxed atmosphere, seasonal food, inexpensive

Cons: not open everyday

el haso is one of few vegan places in freiburg that are also open till late nd saturdays! theres a nice and cosy atmosphere and a very friendly staff. ive been there a few times already. the food is tasty and nicely served but the portions were small - i was still hungry after finishing my risotto. the dessert is worth trying. definitely a place to recommend with fair prices.

Pros: friendly staff, tasty food, nicely served

Cons: small portions

Vegan Oasis In Germany - Edit

We were beyond thrilled to find this gem of a restaurant during our travels. Great vegan food and a friendly atmosphere. It's not easy to find this place, by the way. They need better signs. Worth this search, though!

Pros: Great Vegan Food, Creative Vegan Desserts, Friendly Staff

Cool atmosphere, tasty food - Edit

In my opinion, any vegetarian/vegan restaurant that can survive in Germany (a land of meat-lovers) must be doing something right! And I'm happy to support that!

A very cool venue - an underground bunker, relaxed atmosphere, and an ever-changing menu.

While the options were limited, and the serving sizes huge, at least you know you can go back every week and get something new.

Pros: Cool venue - in the university sector, Relaxed dining - order at the bar, Cheap!

Cons: HUGE serving sizes, I prefer to avoid the seitan - rubbery!, No natural light
