New owner, chef, owner - terrible

Bayfield
“Good luck with somewhere else”
⁃ “red seal trainer chef”

We’ve been going to this restaurant for many years. This restaurant now has a new owner (2023), new Chef and a new menu. Sadly, our dinner was abysmal. When we were asked for feedback about our meal, the owner Tyler stated, “good luck with somewhere else”. Of note, we were comparing our meal with the meals we had received HERE previously; not another restaurant. We certainly didn’t ask for any substitutions or a refund! Tyler was defensive, dismissive and rude.

The new menu is a hodgepodge of cheap pub food. Nachos, several pasta dishes (likely frozen), two types of macaroni and cheese, German kassler, Korean beef bowls, etc. It was reminiscent of a Kelsey’s knockoff on a bad night. Indeed, the cook was sitting at the bar during the dinner service, both when we came in and when we left. Never a good sign.

Even the charcuterie board was a disaster; how can one eat a runny, overly sweet strawberry jam with only a German pretzel? We’ve ordered this for years and it always featured a wonderful, thoughtfully constructed combination of local meats, cheeses, artisanal breads, crackers and condiments. The menu was also previously sophisticated, thoughtful, and cohesive. The execution was excellent, portion sizes perfect. The value was phenomenal. Sadly, it’s the very opposite now.

When a business starts watering down drinks and loading them with ice, it’s usually a sign of the health of the business. Not even the drinks were sufficient. The sangria didn’t have so much as an orange wedge, was heavily watered and obviously canned.

In a year, when I have no doubt there will be a new owner and cook, I’ll try again. Tyler doesn’t deserve our business or yours. I just feel bad for the long term serving staff who are all wonderful.

Pros: Servers, Location

Cons: Terrible food, Dishonest menu, re vegetarian offerings , Owner rude

Amazing Gem in Bayfield

They've recently changed chefs, and the new chef is making a great effort to include numerous vegan options. The mac and cheese was surprisingly impressive.
