Serves meat, vegan options available. Local restaurant with a chef that is passionate about vegan cuisine. There are always vegan dishes and the chef also proposes off-menu dishes. NOTE: Removed for lack of vegan options, June 2023.
Went there with a friend on a Wednesday evening (seems that lots of nice vegan friendly places are not open then 😂). There was one vegan dish on the menu, but it was en entree and they didn't want to give it as a main dish. Something with the counting of portions 🤔. So they offered to bring me a eggplant pakora salad. It was nothing special and definitely not worth the 20 euro they charged me.
We booked a table for a birthday and mentioned beforehand that there were 2 vegans, as requested on their website. Upon arrival there was a little panic at first because their only vegan option for the day was sold out. But eventually, the staff seemed to keep on coming up with off-menu options like vegan lasagna and eggplant pakora, which we ended up having. It was really tasty, although I'm a big eater and could have eaten more. We did also get some bread as an appetizer that came along with some soy butter, which was very considerate. As there were no vegan dessert options listed, we had a piece of pie from Madam Bakster a bit further at another restaurant named Basta. We were however really satisfied with our choice and got the feeling that Eethuis De Fobie has a passionate chef with the right creativity to make great vegan dishes, so we hope they will do more with it and might return sometime in the future.
