Serves meat, vegan options available. Fancy resort and golf course with dining. Has a vegan menu that includes cauliflower wings, pizza, a jackfruit sandwich, and vegan cheesecake for dessert.
Their vegan food was terrible, their service worse. - Edit
My friend recently treated me to a overnight stay and dinner at Druid's Glen and I can sum it up in two words: total disappointment.
We're vegan and were happy to discover that The Happy Pear endorse the vegan options on their lunch and dinner menus. However, when we got to dinner we discovered a vegan starter and a vegan dessert and nothing else, having paid for a four course meal. What is the point of having a vegan starter and dessert with no vegan main? We had to make changes to a vegetarian main to make it vegan and when it arrived it was just plain bad (its dahl, its not rocket science).
The food I could probably have forgiven (maybe the mysterious fourth course we were never offered, even after we asked for it, would have made up for things, but I guess we'll never know) but the service was absolutely terrible at dinner.
We also had lunch (another Happy Pear endorsement gone wrong) and the service was great so had high hopes for dinner at this 5* hotel. I'm not sure if we panicked the servers by asking if the bread on the table was vegan, but from that point on our server practically ignored us. From clearing away our mains practically uneaten and not asking us a single question about why we hadn't eaten our food, to leaving us with the dessert menu for 20 minutes (they've got one vegan option, I didn't need to deliberate that long) to bringing me the bill and insisting that I pay when I had asked him for our fourth course. I reiterated I was waiting for our fourth course but he just told me to pay the bill instead.
At this point we were both fed up so we just paid and left and headed straight for Reception and asked for the manager.
When John eventually arrived, he listened to our issues and then offered us a glass of wine to make up for it. (Unless that was a €500 glass of wine, I don't quite think you made up for it ...). Something that did make me laugh was when we handed us the wine he told us to "calm down" but I did Druid's Glen the favour of assuming he meant "sit back and relax".
My recommendation is that you don't come here if you a) have any dietary requirements at all and b) enjoy good service. I certainly won't be back.
It was so nice to go to a hotel with vegan options on the menu! In the Garden Rooms (the main bar of the hotel) they had a few marked options on the menu: cauliflower wings, vegan pizza and a Buddha bowl. The cauliflower wings were delicious but the Buddha bowl was a bit strange - it could have done with the addition of rice because it was just dahl, kimchi, avocado and pitta bread. Have soya milk as an option for tea/ coffee.
