Vegan Meal in a Seafood World

I asked about vegan options, and the chef created a tasty meal. Ask for tofu, and allow him to create. The restaurant understands vegan.

Pros: Creative dish, Very tasty, Pleasant employees

Surprisingly great vegan options!

Last night we ate at Down Island Seafood restaurant in Santa Rosa Beach. The owner Stefani sat us down and when we told her we were vegan her eyes lit up. She’s a registered dietician and she’s dairy-free herself. Stefani talked with us throughout our time there even though we had a great server, and she went over all the options they could veganize and other things the kitchen could create for us off-menu.

We ended up getting the brussels sprouts that came with pistachios, vinegar, and maple syrup, the fresh sourdough bread that included fresh peaches, vegan cheese, microgreens, a vinaigrette, and tomatoes, an off-menu high-protein pasta with blackened fried tofu, peppers, broccolini, and a sauce medley of marinara, chimichurri, and romesco, and a fried tofu basket with hand-cut fries and an apple slaw.

It’s so refreshing to find a restaurant here that not only has true vegan options with high protein content, but one where the owner is emphatic about catering to dietary restrictions. It’s worth the drive!

*She was really happy we found her on Happy Cow

Fantastic food

Had a really great experience at this restaurant. Came here with my non-vegan in-laws, and everyone was thrilled with their food.

We had the Korean-style fried broccoli appetizer first and loved it. Highly recommend getting it if you go there! For the main course, we just told them, "Surprize us!" - and they brought out this delicious red lentil pasta with maitake mushrooms, peppers, cherry tomatoes, and fried tofu. Will definitely go back!

Pros: Accommodating to vegans, Good place for vegan+non-vegan parties

Cons: No vegan entrees listed on the menu, (but they'll still make you one upon request)

Great food, some vegan option

This food was incredible. The chef’s wife is a dietician and therefore they take diet restrictions seriously. We were surprised. We showed up just planning to eat the (delicious) broccoli appetizer and go. But when we told the waiter we were vegan she said “our chef will prepare a vegan dish off menu for you” and asked specifics about dairy, egg, etc.

Not sure if this chef is always there, but the meal was amazing and we were pleasantly surprised to have a restaurant in this area be so accommodating
