Not Worth It

Apparently they didn't have any vegetarian/vegan options for a while, but they are back. However it's still not as many as before, and outside of the literal vegetables like cucumbers and kale, they're not good. The vegetable dumplings and pot stickers were bland and just filled with mushy cabbage. They also offer cocktails on their menu, but if you order one they just bring you a canned drink and a glass filled with ice. I wasn't really a fan when I went there before but I won't be going back a third time 👎

Cons: Limited options , Lack of flavor , Expensive

No longer Vegan/Vegetarian for most options

There is a sign on the door that states that almost all vegan options are no longer actually vegan. It says it is a temporary change but no one knows how long this change will last.

I can confirm that this is still the case as of today (November 24, 2023). To be sure, we asked the hostess specifically and she confirmed that no vegan options are available at the moment. 😐

Very fresh - fine dining - Dim Sum

I just happen to run across this place on a Friday at lunchtime. Wow - it was busy! Highly recommend you check waiting list on Yelp and put yourself on it before you go.

I had three items - steamed pot stickers, fried pot stickers, and green onion cake. They make everything to order here, so don't be in a rush. The Vegan items are all scattered over the menu.

I was quite pleased with food and the prices. I was in a rush - not a good place for rushing people!

Pros: Made to Order, Lots of Vegan Options, Great "to go" stuff at the front - no rationing

Cons: Needs a Vegna menu to make ordering easier, Long Wait

Dough Zone Serves Up Stunning Waterfront Views and Underwhelming Vegan Options

Located on the Portland water front, Dough Zone could not have chosen a better location. Be aware that parking is difficult in this location.

I was excited to try Dough Zone when I heard that it was about to open in Portland, especially since it is located in the former Lucier building which was known for being one of Portlands most expensive restaurants that lasted only 7 months. According to an Oregon Live article by Jamie Hale, over $4 million was spent on the location for Lucier.

When you walk in through the large doors, there is a fancy metal host desk and a tablet setup for a waitlist. I arrived for dinner service, and the wait was around 20 minutes—enough time to enjoy walking around the waterfront. Many aspects of the restaurant’s design feel like a fine-dining restaurant, with mirrored columns and artistic ceiling installments throughout. At 7,500 square feet, Dough Zone has plenty of space. While the atmosphere is unique, the food was unfortunately not the best.

Staff here are friendly and fast, but it seems as if they are under stress from being so busy due to just having opened. Items came to our table at different times. The A-Choy with sesame dressing was quite good, and so were the cucumbers. I tried the noodle with onion soy sauce and it was missing a deep flavor and could have used more salt and spice. The pan fried vegetable dumplings looked appetizing but were too oily to enjoy.

I really wanted to love Dough Zone, and if they can dial in their vegan options, they have serious potential to compete with Din Tai Fung. Overall, I would still recommend checking this place out, if only for the location and light appetizers.

Pros: Vegan options, Fine-dining level restaurant design, Waterfront views

Cons: Underwhelming taste, Possible wait
