Meat in my vegan dish - Edit
Half way through eating my eggplant I found a giant chunk of chicken in my "vegan" meal. I threw the rest away.

Ask for pressed tofu, if you don’t want fried - Edit
This is what I substitute for meat. My favorite Asian restaurant! Lettuce wraps & salad artfully done. Whole edamame lightly salted. The eggplant is delightful. I prefer this location to the Market Street one.

Eggplant!! - Edit
I went here many times before becoming vegan and the eggplant dish was my favorite. Now I order it without the pork and it’s still amazing! Also love the vegetable dumplings, veggie lettuce wraps, mixed vegetables (with lotus!!) and the Hong Kong noodles are so good. They will make their coconut shrimp with tofu BUT there’s cow’s milk in the coating so not vegan friendly.

Wonderful takeout/delivery - Edit
I was hiding out from a cold front at a motel and had Cape Fear Deliveries bring me Scallion Pancake, Vegetarian Lettuce Wraps, and Salt and Pepper Tofu. All good stuff. Wonderful. I was well sated and back at work on my boat the next day.

Cons: No surprises. Delivered by outside service.

good, relaxing dinner - Edit
Relaxing atmosphere, light jazz plays, not just the canned Chinese sounds. Ginger tofu good, hoisin green beans excellent. My husband (meat eater) had pepper steak; said it was fatty. Edamame dumplings great, visually appealing.

They are not honest about whether dishes are vegan - Edit
UPDATED REVIEW: I just learned that they have been lying to customers about the curry being vegan - they are well aware that it has shrimp paste in it and that IT IS NOT VEGAN. Given that I have eaten here many times, have always notified the server that I am vegan, and yet I have been served non-vegan food, I will not dine at Double Happiness again.

Awesome food - Edit
This restaurant is great, I love it because they can make anything on the menu veg friendly. They either substitute tofu or soy "chicken". The staff is very friendly. It is definitely one of my favorite restaurants.

Disappointing - Edit
On Friday, May 30, 2008, my family and I had the misfortunate to eat at Double Happiness restaurant located
Read morein Wilmington, NC. The name of this restaurant is a misnomer, and raises several red flags.
1) They push drinks (alcohol) endlessly.
2) Employees lack personal hygiene (e.g., a food/drink handler did not wash her hands in the restroom).
3) The atmosphere is not for adults who seek peace
and quiet.
4) The food is subpar (e.g., either bland or submerged in thick syrupy sauces).
So unless you're a glutton for punishment, heed the red flags and avoid this place!
I'd advise you to visit Tidal Creek Coop, which is just down the road.
Cons: bad food, poor hygiene, mark-up on drinks--which they push!
